James Proudstar, alias Warpath, is an Apache mutant and member of the X-Men. Brother to John Proudstar, a member of the X-Corps under the alias Thunderbird, who was killed very early on in one of the team's first missions. With his brother's death and his mutation manifesting, James swore to take revenge against Charles Xaiver and joined the Hellions under Emma Frost. He initially aided in the Hellions conflict and subsequent challenges with the New Mutants, and eventually joined them after he initially felt he didn't belong with the Hellions and later because of the murder of his entire tribe at the reservation.
After meeting and saving the life of Charles Xaiver, in spite of his oath to avenge his brother, James decided to forego his vengeance and joined the X-Men, and later the new X-Force. He would take part in many conflicts as a key member, such as the rampage of World War Hulk and the future Messiah War. He eventually reunited with his brother after he was resurrected by the Scarlet Witch. After Krakoa is created as a sanctuary for mutantkind, Warpath moves to the mutant nation to serve as a mentor and trainer for the next generation, occasionally rejoining his old teammates and friends to protect his people.
