The Villkiss is a Ragna-mail built by Embryo as part of his plan to destroy and remake the Earth. He succeeds in rendering Earth nearly uninhabitable, and also succeeds in creating a new universe and an alternate Earth. The Villkiss was then stored in the Misurugi Empire before being stolen by the Progenitors, a faction of humans descended from the people from before Embryo created magic. It was then taken to Arzenal, the staging area for combat against the DRAGONs, for safekeeping, disguised as a normal para-mail.
Arzenal is staffed entirely by Norma, girls born in the Mana societies that are unable to utilize magic. Several Norma allied with the Progenitors, and attempted to use the Villkiss to assassinate Embryo. The attempt failed, as they were unable to utilzie the mech's full power, and the damaged Villkiss was left to gather dust in Arzenal's hanger.
Later, the princess of the Misurugi Empire, Angelise Ikaruga Misurugi, would be found to be a Norma and sent to Arzenal on her 16th birthday. After attempting to desert and causing the deaths of three of her squad, Angelise sought to die in battle and was given the Villkiss. She was compatible with the Ragna-mail, however, and it responded to her stronger emotions to repair itself. Ange and the Villkiss would then become Arzenal's ace fighters, doing the best against the DRAGONs.
When the DRAGONs attacked Arzenal directly, and breaking Ange out of the prison cell she was being held in, Ange would come to its defense in the Villkiss. In desperation, she sings while in the cockpit; the song is coincidentally the activation method for Uriel Mode, allowing her to use the Space-time Convergence Cannons. The Misurugi Empire then decided to attack Arzenal and slaughter all its inhabitants. Ange again sortied in the Villkiss, driven by rage at the genocide of the Norma. The Villkiss responded to her emotions, allowing her to utilize Michael Mode for the first time. She decimates the attacking fleet, and is about to kill her brother before Embryo kill steals by using the Space-time Convergence Cannons in his own Ragna-mail, the Hysterica.
He fires it again at Ange's sort-of-boyfriend, Tusk, and Ange's desperation to save him unlocks Ariel Mode, teleporting them to the prior Earth alongside Vivian, a DRAGON who thought she was human. After Ange and Tusk make contact with and befriend the princes of the DRAGONs, Salamandinay, Ange uses the Villkiss to assist the princess in stopping an experiment by Embryo to fuse the two dimensions. She returns to her Earth alongside a DRAGON force aiming to rescue its captive ancestor, but the invasion force is stymied by several Ranga-mails attacking.
Ange continues to make use of the Villkiss, utilizing her skill as its pilot and none of its extremely useful alternate forms to take the fight to Embryo as he tries to fuse the world. They are able to stop it as it is almost complete, only for Embryo to kidnap Ange. Tusk utilizes his connection to Ange to power up the Villkiss and cross the space between dimensions and rescue his girlfriend. He co-leads a small force alongside Hilda, Ange's girlfriend, and delivers the Villkiss to Ange.
The Villkiss gets a special final episode deus ex machina powerup, and Ange pilots it against the Hysterica while Tusk faces Embryo in a sword duel. She wins, cutting off Embryo's godlike powers and allowing Tusk to deal the finishing blow. The Norma then find themselves in the DRAGONs' Earth, and they go on to leave lives of peace as the world of Mana falls into anarchy and chaos.
