WHO IS DEADLIEST!?
Nanoha Takamachi[]
Note: The Nanoha in this battle will be the version as of the end of the StrikerS anime, so she will have all of the abilities in the main anime series, but not those that she only gains in Vivid, Force, or the alternate universe movies and games.
“ | Call me a devil... it just means I'll have to use my hellish powers to get you to listen!"
— Nanoha Takamachi
|
” |
Originally a minor character in an esoteric Japanese dating sim, Triangle Heart, Nanoha Takamachi is the main character of the Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha series.
Nanoha was girl in the city of Uminari, Japan, until, at eight years of age, she finds a magical artifact, an "intelligent device" known as "Raising Heart" which takes the form of a red jewel in a necklace capable of transforming into a staff capable of firing devastating energy attacks along with a talking ferret named Yuuno. Yuuno reveals to her that "magic" is actually an alien technology, and that she is one of the few humans capable of using it. The ferret then tells her of his own mission, to recover dangerous magical artifacts known as Jewel Seeds. She later encounters another magic user, a humanoid alien named Fate Testarossa, who is also seeking the Jewel Seeds for her own purposes. Despite initial hostilities, Nanoha defeats, befriends, and frees Fate from her abusive mother, and the two quickly become close.
A few months later, Nanoha gets involved with the Wolkenritter, magical constructs created by the artifact known as The Book of Darkness. She reunites with Fate to fight the group, who are draining mages of their ability to use magic in order to power the artifact. While they are successful, outside forces intervene to power the Book of Darkness, which then goes berserk. After a battle, they manage to weaken it enough to free its host, Hayate Yagami, who goes on to join Fate and Nanoha as a trio of powerful mages.
Years later, Nanoha leaves Earth to work for the Time-Space Administration Bureau, an organization that polices the use of magic. As one of the organization's strongest mages, she quickly rises in the ranks, and fills the role of a combat instructor when she isn't on the front lines. She is then roped into Riot Force 6 by Yagami, where she and Fate form the core of the team. While foiling a coup, Nanoha rescues and adopts Vivio, the clone of an ancient ruler.
Among the fanbase, Nanoha has become something of a meme over the fact that her enemies tend to be converted into allies, but only after she defeats the, leading the use of the phrase "befriend" meaning blast with ridiculously powerful magic lasers.
Raising Heart/Magic[]
The Nanoha in this battle will be the version in the StrikerS anime, so she will have all of the abilties in the main anime series, but not those that she only gains in Vivid, Force, or the alternate universe movies.
Nanoha’s primary weapon is her intelligent device, Raising Heart. Raising Heart is a sentient alien AI capable of assuming the form of either a small red jewel usually carried on a necklace when untransformed, and a staff similar to the typical anime “magical girl” when carried. Raising Heart is used to perform the calculations necessary for using magic in the Nanoha universe, and is capable of unleashing a variety of magic attacks, defenses, and other abilities listed below. Raising Heart draws mana from Nanoha’s “Linker Core”, a mana-producing organ that is rare in Terran humans (but much more common in various alien humanoids such as Mid-Childans, Belkans etc), that allow them to channel and control mana and use magic/ Nanoha is very powerful and has an exceptionally large mana supply, but it is by no means unlimited. Excessive mana use may cause fatigue or even cause the user to collapse into unconciousness. Raising Heart, does, however, have the advantage of being able to use magic cartridges, objects similar to firearm cartridge which provide a boost of mana when expended, to augment her Nanoha's magic supply. Given her high mana supply, Nanoha specializes in the “bombardment” style of combat magic, which basically turns her into a human artillery piece, ideal for causing massive destruction at a distance, though her close combat abilities are limited, to the point that she was one outmatched in close combat by the much weaker Caro Lu Rushe in a training exercise during the StrikerS series.
Barrier Jacket[]
Nanoha’s transformed outfit is referred as her barrier jacket, and is not a normal type of clothing, but a magical construct that provides substantial defense against enemy attacks. Nanoha’s barrier jacket is capable of effortlessly shrugging off magic attacks rivalling artillery fire or aerial bombs in firepower, and she has even survived nuclear-level attacks similar to her own, though it can be broken with enough damage.
Flight/Flier Fin/Accel Fin[]
Nanoha as access to multiple spells that allow her to fly, their use signified by small glowing wings of light behind her feet. The Flier Fin and Accel Fin allow her to travel at higher velocities than her basic flight speeds, seeming to allow her to easily break the sound barrier at the highest levels
Divine Buster[]
One of Nanoha’s signature attacks, the Divine Buster, is a powerful energy beam attack, easily surpassing a heavy aerial bomb in firepower. The attack has a considerable mana usage, so Nanoha usually reserves it for use against her most powerful adversaries.
Starlight Breaker[]
Nanoha’s most powerful, and arguably her signature ability, the Starlight Breaker is essentially a massively enhanced version of the Divine Buster. The Starlight Breaker fires off a massive beam of energy, easily rivaling a nuclear weapon in destructive power. The attack has even greater mana usage than the Divine Buster, and as such is a final option for Nanoha when all other weapons fail. The attack makes use of loose mana found the in the area to boost its attack power, making it most effective at the end of an extended fight between two mages. Note that while Chise does not make use of magic attacks, Nanoha's attacks will still generate stray mana.
Other Magic Attacks[]
- ACS Charge: Creates an energy blade on Raising Heart and charges through air, using the device as a spear.
- Active Guard: creates an energy field to decelerate a falling object
- Area Search: used to search an area for a target, like a magic radar *Divine/Axel (Accel?) Shooter: shoots a blast of multiple (up to 32) high speed energy balls with the explosive force of a small artillery shell, each one may be guided, but the user must be stationary when firing to properly guide them.
- Barrel Shot: An invisible bind spell that not only holds the target in position, but also “locks” onto the target for high-power attacks such as Starlight Breaker.
- Bind Break: counteracts binding spells, designed to hold a target in shackles of energy to either apprehend them or leave them open to attack.
- Barrier Break: causes a magic shield to detonate outwards, attacking melee attackers who attempt to break the field with brute force.
- Chain Bind: binds the target in glowing magic chains that can be used to manipulate the target or even cut through it if the target is constricted hard enough.
- Cross Fire Shoot: Teana Lanster’s signature attack, fires a barrage of over ten energy balls. Nanoha can use this attack even without her device.
- Crystal Cage: immobilizes one target in a pyramid-shaped energy field
- Flash Impact: a high-speed, mana-charged melee attack.
- Flash Move: a spell that allows the user to fly at higher speeds
- Ring/Hoop Bind: a ring-shaped magic bind that holds a single person in place.
- Impact Cannon: a ball of energy fired at high speed
- Lightning Protection: defends against high voltage electricity
- Maneuver ACS: a long to close-range charging melee attack
- Maneuver SSA: A diving melee attack similar to Maneuver ACS
- Oval Protection: creates an omni-direction oval-shaped shield around the target’s body.
- Restrict Lock: Binds a single target in place with magic rings
- Round/Holding Shield: Creates a round, uni-directional shield. The holding shield variant can “catch” melee weapons and hold them in place.
- Sacred Cluster: fires a shotgun-like blast of magic energy balls
- Shoot Bullet: basic single shot energy ball
- Stardust Fall: levitates rocks from the nearby environment and fires them down at a target at high speeds.
- Strike Flame: creates an energy blade at the end of Raising Heart, often used to charge like a spear or bayonet.
- Strike Stars: shoots guided magic energy balls that close in on a single target from all directions
- Wide Area Protection: a dome-shaped magic shield that covers a large area.
Chise[]
“ | I am a weapon
— Chise
|
” |
Note: The Chise in this battle will be the version at the end of the final episode- i.e. the last battle of anime.
A clumsy teenage girl with poor grades in every course except history, and a fan of shoujo manga, Chise was an unlikely candidate for becoming an living weapon of mass destruction. But, after the Japanese Self-Defense Force found out she was compatible with cybernetic weapons, wings, and jetpacks, Chise became just that, being deployed against an unknown enemy at war with Japan, apparently over territory.
Saikano takes place in grim alternate reality where, by the early 21st century, much of the Earth had become uninhabitable by human actions. Japan, was one of the inhabitable places remaining, and a multinational invasion was sparked to take control of the inhabitable territory. Chise was deployed against these invasion forces, causing severe casualties, but also causing large amounts of collateral friendly fire damage.
The war serves as a backdrop for the story of Chise's relationship with her boyfriend, Shuji, who discovers that she is a military cyborg after he sees her sporting cybernetic wings and an arm-mounted Gatling gun, shortly after shooting down a squadron of enemy bombers. Saikano also explores the psychological destruction of Chise and those around her because of the horrors and tragedy that surround them. In the final episode of Saikano, an unspecified disaster strikes, apparently wiping out all life on Earth, save for Shuji, who Chise managed to save.
Chise's cybernetics include a 25mm GAU-12 Gatling Gun, missiles fired from her back, a powerful energy weapon capable of striking with the force of a large bomb, and most devastating of all, the ability to generate nuclear-level explosions seemingly at will. Chise is able to fly at least as fast as a fighter jet with her cybernetic wings and jets. Chise is extremely resiliant, even bordering on invincible, capable of surviving direct hits with shipborne anti-aircraft missiles with little damage, though at one point, her wings are damaged, and she does scream in pain in the final episode is she is struck with multiple missiles, suggest that if she sustains enough damage, she can be killed.
Gatling Gun[]
Chise carries a Gatling gun which unfolds from her arm. The weapon is similar in appearance to the GAU-12 25mm Gatling gun, and seems to have similar firepower, being capable of shooting down a jet bomber, and seems to have infinite ammo.
Missiles[]
Chise is capable of firing a seemingly infinite supply of missiles from her back. These missiles appear to have an extremely long range, being able to shoot down a satellite. She can fire these weapons out in a barrage of at least a dozen, each of the being independently targetable at a different target.
Laser Cannon[]
In addition to the Gatling Gun, Chise can also arm herself with a laser cannon on her arm. The weapon has great destructive power at least as great as a large fuel air bomb. Early in the anime, the weapon requires about a second to charge up before firing. By the end of the anime, however, Chise is capable of firing a beam capable of instantly destroying a warship about once every second. This beam can be swept across a swath of land at least multiple kilometers long and at least 100 meters or so wide, allowing it to to vaporize multiple targets in less than a second.
Multi-Beam[]
Later in the anime, Chise is seen generating firing numerous, up to over 100, energy projectiles from her back. These projectiles can able to home in on targets, and each engage a different target, can can engage targets in any direction from Chise.
Spontaneously Generated Spikes[]
In the final episode of Saikano, Chise proves to be able to summon a gigantic mass of spiked matter in the sky, easily over multiple square kilometers in area, and is capable of retracting spikes at least 100 meters wide and at least a kilometer in length downward from the mass to strike targets at will. These protrusions from a the main mass long enough to crush enemy land forces or ships on the ground/sea, and can be deployed fast enough to intercept incoming missiles.
Nuclear-Level Explosion Generation[]
Chise is capable of creating highly destructive nuclear-level explosions easily capable of leveling a city. These detonations are centered around Chise, however the explosions do not harm Chise herself.
Superhuman Durability[]
- Survived multiple missile impacts with no apparent damage
- Received only light wing damage and minor cuts from a barrage of SAMs.
Chise is shown to possess superhuman durability, to the point where she can effortlesslys survive practically any modern weapon with little or no damage. She has on multiple occasions survived direct hits from air-to-air and surface to air missiles, as well as artillery fire to no detriment of her fighting ability. Even a barrage of multiple naval SAMs- possibly Sea Sparrow or Standard SAMs causes only minor wing damage and a few cuts and bruises on her body.
Supersonic Flight[]
Chise is capable of flying at supersonic speeds, proving effortless capable intercepting modern jet aircraft such as the F/A-18 Hornet and Panavia Tornado fighters and the B1 supersonic bomber. She does prove unable to completely evade a barrage of naval SAMs such as the Sea Sparrow or Standard Missile, suggesting her top speed is no greater than Mach 4.
Self-Evolving[]
Over the course of the series, Chise’s cybernetics are shown to be capable of evolving as she faces new threats, allowing her to unlock more powerful and destructive abilities throughout the course of the series, thought this seems to take place over the course of at least month, possibly even a year. Her senses of sight and hearing are massively enhanced, allowing her to effectively target distant enemies, as, at the same time, her body temperature and heart beat can no longer be sensed, suggesting the cybernetics have replaced her vital organs, presumably playing a large part in her massive durability.
Enhanced Senses[]
As described above, Chise has massively enhanced senses of sight and hearing, allowing her to effortlessly detect and target of tens of kilometers distance and engage them. Her senses seem to be directly linked to the targetting systems of all of her weapons, allowing her instantly lock into and engage over 100 targets at once as noted above. Given her ability to target enemies not directly in her line of sight, as demonstrated with the multi-target attacks, it is likely suggested she has some sort of extrasensory preception. In the OVA, she is even able to sense that fellow cybernetic Lt. Col. Mizuki is dying even when she is not in the area, however, it is not clear if this telepathic connection is restricted to other cybernetics, or if she can detect the brain waves of other individuals.
X-Factors[]
Nanoha Takamachi | X-Factor | Chise |
---|---|---|
90 | Combat Experience | 70 |
50 | Training | 50 |
45 | Brutality | 90 |
90 | Psychological Health | 35 |
Explanations[]
In terms of combat experience, I give Nanoha the edge as she has repeatedly fought against enemies that rivaled herself in power, including Fate Testarossa, the Wolkenritter, the Will of the Book of Darkness, and numerous others, and has engaged in such battles since she acquired her powers at the age of eight. Chise, on the other hand, was only converted into a cyborg less than a year before the end of her world, and while she saw near-constant combat, all of this was against conventional military forces (who, even more puzzlingly, didn't even once try to employ nuclear weapons against her even when the threat she posed became apparent), having never fought against something on the same level as herself. In terms of training, Nanoha presumably has some training when she joined the TSAB, but learned most of her magic abilities, including her most powerful attacks when she was child, before she received any real combat training. Chise presumably received some JSDF training, including from previous cyborg Lt. Col. Mizuki, but that seems to have been rushed to get her into the field as fast as possible. In terms of brutality, Chise takes the definitive edge, as her cybernetics have, by the end of the episode, taken over a significant part her personality, causing her to delight in killing with out mercy. Nanoha, on the other hand, while willing to subject her adversaries to extreme, but non-lethal force, she refuses to outright kill her enemies, believing that she can defeat and subsequently redeem them. In terms of mental health, Nanoha is psychologically normal, while much of Chise's personality has been taken over by the cybernetic, slowly making her less human and more of a literal living weapon. By the final episode, the only thing that allows her hold on to the remains of her humanity is her love for Shuji.
Notes[]
- The battle will take place over the ruins of an abandoned city. Nanoha will have arrived on the scene as the first member of TSAB unit sent to deal with the situation on Saikano's Earth and avert the destuction of the planet using their technology. Chise will assume Nanoha is an enemy and attack her. Victory can be achieved by killing or incapacitating their opponent.
Battle[]
In the skies above Otaru, Hokkaido, Japan, a human weapon flew through the air. Missiles flew through the air and laser beams lit up the sky as Chise swept through an enemy naval task force. Even with all her power, Chise could do nothing to stop the impeding apocalypse.
But there was one who could. After Terran TSAB officer Hayate Yagami managed to pull a few springs in the organization, the alien military force known as the Time Space Administration Bureau descended on earth, equipped with the technology to avert the ecological Armageddon that started this conflict in the first place. At the vanguard of this force was Major Nanoha Takamachi, the most elite agent of the TSAB, and incidentally a close friend of Yagami's since childhood. It was her mission to subdue the human weapon that had become the primary threat to TSAB's rescue operation.
As the last of the enemy fleet below was reduced to burning wreckage, Chise spotted a pink-colored light flash across the sky. The advanced censors implanted in her body immediately locked on the target, identifying it flying human emitting massive energy readings, in other words, something similar to herself. There were no other such entities in JSDF service, so it had to be... an enemy...
Immediately, Chise summoned a dozen missiles seemingly out of nowhere, sending them streaking towards her target. Several kilometers away, Nanoha's intelligent device called out, "Alert, incoming projectiles". Nanoha gave commanded her device to active the "Round Shield" spell, intercepting incoming missiles.
Magically amplifying her voice, Nanoha called out to Chise, "Stop this! I'm here to help. I can save your planet, no one else has to die!"
The weapon in Chise, however, had long since taken over, leaving nothing but the will to annihilate the enemy. Chise fired more missiles, dozens of them, at Nanoha. As the projectiles moved in from all directions, Nanoha moved to evade, causing several of the missiles to explode in a flash of fire as they collided with each other.
"Sacred Cluster", Raising Heart called out, as Nanoha summoned a blast of energy balls that intercepted several more of the missiles, before the last of them detonated harmlessly against against her barrier jacket.
Seeing no other option than to subdue the living weapon that stood before her, Nanoha unleashed her "Accel Shooter" attack, launching a barrage of energy balls at Chise. Detecting the incoming threat, Chise fired off her arm-mounted Gatling gun at the incoming projectiles, intercepting seven of them, but the rest struck her, covering her in several explosions.
As the smoke cleared, however, Chise still hovered defiantly in the air as her arm-mounted weapon reconfigured itself. A laser beam cut through the smoke and instantly impacted Nanoha, creating an explosion that sent her flying into a skyscraper. Chise then fired a second later beam the burned through the supports of the building, sending it collapsing down on her foe.
For a moment, it looked like Chise had won, but then, a flash of pink-colored light burst from the destroyed structure. Her barrier jacket had suffered from damage from the impact with the building, but Nanoha was otherwise unharmed. As she felt the tower collapse around her, she activated her "oval protection" spell, creating a shield of energy that allowed her to burst through the collapsing remnants of the tower.
Turning to face the threat, Chise fired off a barrage of energy attacks, however, Nanoha simply burst through the hail of fire, her shield holding up against countless explosions as Raising Heart loaded several cartridges, preparing for a powerful attack.
"Divine Buster!", Nanoha called out, unleashing a beam of energy the burst out the cloud of smoke and flames surrounding Chise in a great ball of flame that lit up the sky. As the smoke cleared, it revealed Chise, her wings slightly damaged and sporting several minor injuries, but otherwise unharmed.
At that moment, Chise pulled out all the stops, creating a nuclear-level explosion covered all of Nanoha's vision in a blinding flash of light. The blast leveled the city below her as it burst through Nanoha's shield and sent her fly several kilometers through the air. Nanoha's barrier jacket only barely held. As she finally regained control of her flight, about 5 kilometers from the epicenter of the blast, she was sporting a few burns, but was likewise not severely injured, her shield and barrier jacket having taken most of it.
Looking at the mushroom cloud that rose in the distance, Nanoha though for a moment it was over. She wasn't able to save that girl, or any of them the people in that city, but at least the TSAB could still save the planet.
A moment later, Nanoha realized how wrong she was, when she was struck by a massive force from above. Looking up as she struggled to regain control of her flight after the impact, she saw a gigantic mass of black metallic matter, easily dozens of kilometers wide floating in the air above.
Nanoha regained control of her flight just in time to evade a second spike, before blasting a third away with an energy attack. Soon after, Nanoha narrowly evaded a beam of energy that lanced out from the center of the ruined city.
Driven mad by the horrors she saw in her past, and having finally faced another who rivaled her power, Chise pulled out all of the stops. She would finally put an end to the endless wars of mankind the only way she knew how- by annihilating the human race, starting with girl.
As a more attacks streaked in, Nanoha loaded several cartridges at once, enough to power her final attack. Realizing that the city was already destroyed, she had no reason to hold back. Nanoha fired her post powerful attack, "Starlight Breaker". A beam of energy that dwarfed those fired by Chise streaked out towards her target, before exploding in an explosion that would have razed the entire city, had Chise not already seen to that earlier.
A matter of seconds later, it was all over, the mass of matter in the sky disintegrated and fell into the sea, signaling the defeat of her foe. Immediately, Nanoha used her Wide Area Search ability, detecting life signs in the city, there were still survivors alive in there.
Chise lay in a pile of rubble, sporting several grevious wounds, her left arm was crushed beneath a large piece of rubble, and her wings were torn to pieces. She knew she was going to die here. Then, she felt the debris pinning her to the ground seem to levitate. Then she herself rise above the ground, as though someone were cradling her in their arms. Looking up, she saw the face of... the person she had fought just moments ago.
"W..Why...?", Chise said weakly, "I'm your enemy... why are you saving me?"
Nanoha smiled at her and said, "The personal I love most in the world was once an enemy. I know people can change, they can be redeemed if you only give them a chance, and if you leave them to die, they can never have a chance. I am part of an organization that can save you, and your planet, no one else has to die".
"Sh...Shuuji...", Chise said, suddenly realizing what she had done when she destroyed the city... "Is he OK!? He was on the lookout on the mountain south of town."
Nanoha looked in the direction Chise indicated, as Raising Heart noted "Life signs detected in the designated area, dispatching rescue units".
"This Shuuji is someone you care about, isn't he?", Nanoha replied, "If he's still alive, we will be able to save him. You have my word."
"Thank you", Chise replied as Nanoha flew up into the air, towards a TSAB spacecraft hovering over over the ruins of the city. As Nanoha returned to the ship, aerial mages and dropships started taking off towards the city to rescue any surivors.
WINNER: Nanoha Takamachi
Expert's Opinion[]
While Chise had some extremely powerful offensive abilities, and could deliver them at an impressive rate, she lacked any defenses apart from her base-level durability which, while impressive, was outclassed by Nanoha's barrier jacket and magic shields. These would allow Nanoha to deploy her most powerful attacks, powered by the cartridge system, and ultimated "befriend" Chise.
