Deadliest Fiction Wiki

It's not hard to find a murderously insane human in fiction whether it be the Invisible Man, Leatherface, Rena Ryugu, or Chris Walker but what's interesting to see is a place that is just as dark and malevolent if not more than it's deranged occupants. The two places that we are looking at are a scenic resort with some eternal guests and a former military ship carrying a very dangerous cargo but they can't fight on their own. These two places will instead send the men most warped by their horrific nature to try to kill each other with their brutal signature weapons and a special trick to see...

Jack Torrance, the Overlook Hotel's caretaker who serves as it's ghosts' loyal executioner!

Olson, the "captain" who went mad over the Manchurian Gold on the Man of Medan and resorted to murder!

Who is Deadliest?

Jack Torrance (The Shining)[]

Jack Torrance Profile

"Here's Johnny!"

Bio:Jack Torrance is an author, teacher, and family man who decided to take the caretaker job at the Overlook Hotel despite another man killing his family there previously. He begins losing his mind while trying to write and becomes increasingly harsh to his family as Ghosts haunt them. Jack becomes an alcoholic again and despite not meaning to hurt Danny again, he begins to change his mind after a ghostly party. It is after this that he fully descends into a homicidal killing machine that attempts to murder his wife and son before the cook returns. Torrance kills him and then chases his son into the hedge maze where he perishes while the Ghosts torment his wife.

Iconic:Fire Axe

Jack uses this 31 inch and 5 pound bladed weapon with two points for chopping through wooden doors and fatal blows to human flesh.

Special:Overlook Ghosts

Torrance's allies include a variety of apparitions including an old shower woman that can make herself look younger, a past caretaker, twin girls, partiers, occupants in rooms, and bleeding elevators. These are all horrific things to witness and they can even unlock doors to free him or the opposite and encourage him to kill or advise him although they can't kill the average person on their own.

Olson (Man of Medan)[]

1-0

"I'm the captain now."

Bio:Olson is the leader of a group of fishermen who hijacked the Duke of Milan after their boat was damaged and Conrad insulted them. After holding the occupants hostage, the boat crashes into an abandoned United States ship from the second World War. Already intrigued about the Manchurian Gold, Olson makes everyone go onto the ghost ship where hallucinogenic gas killed the past occupants. He loses his mind in the process and goes on a murderous rampage as he believes everyone is hiding the gold from him. Olson meets his end after attacking a Milan occupant and getting cut in half by a metal door or a heart attack on his own due to Manchurian Gold.

Iconic:Sledgehammer

Olson uses this 36 inch and 12 pound blunt object with two sides to break decrepit ship walkways, watertight door handles, and put holes in wooden boxes.

Special:Colt M1911

The Captain's semi-automatic pistol will have only two .45 ACP shots but it's got a muzzle velocity of 253 meters per second and a range of 50 meters. He's a skilled marksman who can fatally hit a man escaping in his crew's small boat but after he found Manchurian Gold, who knows what his aim is like now.

X-Factors[]

Physicality:Jack Torrance can injure his son's arm and easily use his fire axe but after his leg was injured that hinders his movement. He can take getting hit in the head with a baseball bat and falling down the stairs, getting his hand sliced, and freezing temperatures in the hedge maze for a while. Olson is capable of using his sledgehammer with ease and overpowering adults to snap their neck or bash their head against glass until they die. He can chase after people and take a punch but pretty much is a normal albeit insane man who can still be briefly overpowered.

Experience:Jack Torrance only killed one guy in his rampage and didn't fight anyone but the Overlook Ghosts have successfully caused one mass murder in the past. Olson appears to have experience hijacking boats and can easily kill people along with getting in one fight before his demise.

Intelligence:Jack Torrance is smart enough to destroy methods of escape and hide in wait for victims but he will sometimes make dumb decisions like yelling his famous line before trying to open a door and threatening Wendy's life with no weapons when she has a baseball bat. Olson is smart enough to make people his hostages and come at night to hijack a boat but his mental state has deteriorated to the point that he's a paranoid mess who believes that everyone's hiding gold from him.

Notes[]

Voting ends on May 9th. Votes need edges or two paragraphs and decent grammar to count. The fight takes place shortly after Olson's final fight where instead of being cut in half, he is unexpectedly teleported to the Overlook Hotel where Jack Torrance has survived the movie's events. Both start on opposite sides of the building and neither knows where the other is at first except the Overlook Ghosts.

The Battle[]

Overlook Hotel, Colorado

All Olson remembered from before he fell unconscious was that he cracked one of his hostages heads open after they tried to kill him to keep the Manchurian Gold to themselves and a door shut on him. He wandered about the room while rambling and desperately thinking of a way out of his predicament before his chest hurt and he sat down to collect his thoughts until his eyes closed and when he opened them again he was in some high-class place. The Captain tried to put the pieces together of what happened and figured it all out, those thieves made a resort with all of their money and had captured him to display him as another ill-gotten good but he wasn't putting up with that anymore as he dragged his sledgehammer around before noticing a familiar sight on the floor.

Jack Torrance was busy typing away like always at his masterpiece, if the same couple of sentences counted as any work, before Mister Grady walked uo to him with a smile before giving the caretaker a new job. "There's a vagrant in your domain, Mr. Torrance." "My Hotel?!" "Yes, he's like that cook who's interfering in matters he shouldn't be interfering." "I'll show him! Watch my work, Grady, I'm going hunting!" The Ghost grinned maliciously as Torrance tore his fire axe out of his quite dead wife's head which was resting on the table before limping off to go find that lunatic who thought he could just break into the place he was guarding, muttering under his breath how badly this was going to go for the man who he hadn't even seen yet.

"You there! Where is she?!" "In Room 237. Of course, you could always stay for the party!" "So you can mock me some more?!" Olson clobbered another party guest over the head with a blunt instrument and he kept his focus on finding that wannabe captain who had made a fool out of him even as he felt multiple gazes on the back of his head, he was just still in shock, that was all it was as he saw their craniums get busted open. He roared as he swung his sledgehammer at the door where the target of his hatred was hiding like a coward and stormed in expecting to see her cowering but just saw some dead kid, judging by the marks he was strangled to death. "So you come out to face the true Captain? Where's my gold?!" The Captain certainly wasn’t expecting a naked lady to open the shower curtain who wasn't even his target and start slowly walking to him before he swung on impulse and another resident fell to his weapon but as he started to turn around, he felt something grip his arm.

It looked like a corpse's hand was holding onto him and he looked in terror to see an old hag reaching for his throat which made him frantically scream and start bashing her forehead with his Colt before shooting her in the heart which finally dropped the maniac. Olson stumbled out of the room and began to think his head was getting worse as two girls showed up at the end of a hallway, they wore matching blue dresses and looked identical so he made the quick assumption that they were twins. "Come play with us forever..." "I don't have time for any of this! Damn you all, I just want my share of the gold! Is that really so wrong for a man to want to be rich? I don't want to be a damn fisherman my entire life!" The Captain's rant had apparently scared away the girls but now a very angry man with a fire axe was staring at him with a murderous look which made him merely smirk as he took aim and fired. "I'm the only captain here."

Jack was either too exhausted or too crazy to try to dodge the M1911 bullet but it was clear that Olson's aim was awful for a madman with only one good eye and he stared in shock as his target made his way down the hall. "Get out of my hotel!" "Tell me where my gold is!" With a battle cry, the two nutjobs came at each other while swinging but neither got very far as they were both trying not to get hit while just attacking with reckless abandon. The Captain roared as Torrance snarled and went to lodge the fire axe in his gut but he was much faster on his feet and avoided that fate before slamming his sledgehammer onto the weapon's hilt which broke it in half.

"I'm going to bash your brains right in!" "You will give me my gold or die like every other thief!" The mayhem continued as Olson was pushed into the wall by Jack next who surprisingly got him to drop his weapon before delivering some punches to his face but he fought back by elbowing him in the ribs. That barely stopped the caretaker for a moment and he simply lunged at the pirate again while unleashing a berserk barrage of blows that was followed by him getting a haymaker to the face and kicked in his bad leg. Torrance couldn't even catch his breath as the Captain had him in a headlock and was currently choking him to death which he might have if Grady hadn't intervened and thrown the Overlook Ghosts' chosen his weapon.

Olson yelled out in pain as the spike end of the axe went in his thigh and he let go of Jack before barely ducking under a swing from the now single-handed weapon that went for his temple but he delivered a quick knee into his foe's groin. The caretaker gasoed as the pirate took the advantage from his dirty blow to use the closest thing he could find as a tool to end this confrontantion, his Colt M1911 that was out of bullets but was currently trying to introduce itself to his foe's brain. It didn't look good for Torrance as he barely kept his eyes open through the brutal beating and the Captain would have finished him if a well-dressed man hadn't walked up to him and calmly asked him one thing. "Are you enjoying your stay?"

"Am I enjoying my stay?! You people kidnapped me, stole all the Manchurian Gold without an offer to share it, and used it all to build this lavish resort! But I'm not having it, you shall pay in blood!" "But sir, I believe you have all the Manchurian Gold you could want." Grady had a knowing smile as he delivered the truth to Olson but he was too caught up in his bloodlust to focus on anything but strangling and beating the man who had ruined his life who somehow wasn't getting hurt at all. "Here's Johnny!" The pirate cried out in pain and horror after a couple moments of that as a blade sank into his shoulder and he saw the deranged grin on Jack's face before his other shoulder got the same fate and the axe landed in his gut. The Captain's pain wasn't over however as he doubled over and curled up on the floor before yelling in agony as his own sledgehammer was used to break both of his legs before he saw Torrance lining uo the final blow.

"Stop! You can have all of the gold! You can be the captain now! Just spare me!" "All I wanted was for you to get out of my hotel and now consider yourself evicted!' Olson screamed before Jack smashed his head into paste and then continued madly smashing the body in his blind rage, the cracking of bones filling the desolate Overlook Hotel. "Timely as always, Mr. Torrance." "I aim to please. Can you tell Lloyd to get me some hair of the dog that bit me? I need it." "Of course, Mr. Torrance." The caretaker went down the halls to where he knew the bar was and sat down for a drink as he heard the cold winds rage outside, truly this was the best way for a man to relax after a hard day's work.

Winner:Jack Torrance

Expert's Opinion[]

Jack Torrance had the better weapon as his fire axe could strike much quicker than the sledgehammer and was more likely to kill with its bladed and spiked edges while the Overlook Ghosts drove Olson even more insane so he wouldn't use his Colt M1911 effectively. The pirate did have the caretaker beat in strength and speed however along with possibly having at least some decent experience, at the very least having actually fought people, but his mania meant that it was doubtful he could claim the intelligence advantage.
