Barry Berkman[]

Barry Battle Profile
Do you think I'm a bad person, Mr. Cousineau?
— Barry Berkman

Born and raised in Cleveland, Barry Berkman enlisted in the U.S. marines early in his life. While on tour in Afghanistan, Barry's close friend Albert Nguyen was wounded in combat, leading to Barry killing a civilian that he believed were responsible. A close family friend, Monroe Fuches, pulled some strings to ensure Barry was honorably discharged, and became Barry's handler as he turned the young veteran into a hitman. One such job took Barry to Los Angeles, where he was hired to kill an actor, Ryan Madison, that began an affair with a Chechen mobster's wife. Barry becomes increasingly involved in the Chechen's conflict with a rival Bolivian gang, while also discovering a passion for acting from acting teacher Gene Cousineau.

He is eventually implicated in the murder of Ryan and discovered by FBI agent and his acting teacher's lover Janice Moss, whom he kills in secret. After making amends with the Chechens, Barry seeks to finally abandon the hitman life and his mentor, Fuches, who reveals to Cousineau that Barry killed Moss. When Barry discovers this, he flies into a rage and assaults the headquarters of the criminal alliance of the Chechens, Bolivians, and Burmese mafia, killing most of the occupants by himself trying and failing to find Fuches. With Cousineau traumatized by discovering his dead lover's corpse and the organized criminal network that supported him now left in shambles, Barry enters a deep depression and returns to working as a hitman while acting in Los Angeles.

Equipment:

  • Glock 17: Barry has used a variety of firearms during his career as a hitman, but his primary pistol of choice is a Glock 17. He often carries this sidearm either on his person in the back of his pants, underneath his bed, or in the glove compartment of his car, and has multiple silencers in the latter two storage units for when he needs to perform a quiet hit. The Glock 17 uses a 9mm round in a 15-round box magazine, and is semi-automatic.
  • Nemesis Arms Vanquish: When Barry thinks it is more effective to utilize a long-range weapon, he utilizes a Nemesis Arms Vanquish sniper rifle. The bolt-action rifle uses a 10-round .308 box magazine, with a scope and range of 600 yards and silencer.

Abilities:

  • Expert Marksman: Barry is a highly skilled sniper and marksman, proficient in multiple kinds of weaponry to the point that he could turn untrained mobsters into a functional fighting unit. During his time in the marines, Barry was able to kill three individuals from 700 yards away with his sniper rifle, while could effortlessly empty his entire magazine into three men in the dark without missing a shot. While forcing his way through the Chechen stronghold, Barry was able to slaughter dozens of criminals on his own with just his pistol. He is also on the receiving end of ambushes several times, easily fighting his way out of them with just his pistol and skill as a fighter.
  • Skilled Hand-to-Hand Combatant: Using a mixture of his brute strength and training as a marine, Barry has shown a proficient level of hand-to-hand combat. He usually beats untrained foes with relative ease, while he held his own against a trained martial artist with multiple taekwando championships (granted, while said fighter was high).
  • Stealth Expert: Barry is highly skilled in using stealth for his hits, with his M.O. often relying on his ability to quietly break into places and dispatching targets without being caught. He was able to get the drop on the Chechens despite their heightened security due to law enforcement, infiltrating a Bolivian cartel's headquarters to plant a bomb, and pulling a Batman on Cousineau.
  • Capable Actor: Barry is a surprisingly decent actor, and when combined with his experience as an anonymous hitman has made him very good at socially blending into his environment. His mundane appearance and subdued behavior ensures that very few ever suspect him of having nefarious intentions, even when he outright confesses to being a hitman or breaking down due to stress.

Modus Operandi:

Barry's M.O. is highly versatile and fluid, often capable of performing a hit in a variety of ways depending on what the situation requires. He prefers stealth above all else, either sneaking into someone's residence to kill them quietly in their own home or from far away with a sniper rifle from an isolated location. Barry also often strikes at night, as it allows him to take the simplest and most efficient route to and from his target without having to worry about being caught by bystanders. He needs very little to prepare his kills, and is a clever improviser to ensure he can quite literally walk away from the scene unnoticed due to his unassuming nature and quick thinking, including when his victims fight back with automatic weapons and draw significant attention. When a hit has been completed, he usually disposes of the gun used at the scene so as to remove the evidence from his person immediately, although this seems to be an exception when he's forced to utilize his personal sidearm.

Dexter Morgan[]

Tonight's the night. And it's going to happen again and again. It has to happen.
— Dexter Morgan

The younger son of a Miami police C.I. named Laura Moser, Dexter Morgan's life was changed when the cartel Laura worked for discovered her. They murdered Moser in a shipping container, leaving Dexter and his older brother Brian inside the crate for several days with her bloody remains. Dexter was adopted by Laura's handler Harry Morgan, who discovered that the trauma from his mother's murder left him traumatized with early signs of psychopathy. After consulting neuropsychiatrist Evelyn Vogel, Harry taught Dexter to channel his violent urges into a "Code of Harry", teaching him to only target murderers that had escaped the law.

Into his adulthood, Dexter became a serial killer operating in the city of Miami and a forensic scientist for the Miami Metro Police. His killings are initially unnoticed, until Dexter's hiding spot is discovered and he is briefly put in the spotlight dubbed the Bay Harbor Butcher, but he manages to place the blame on fellow law enforcement official James Doakes. While operating as a serial killer, Dexter comes into conflict with several other serial killers such as the Ice Truck Killer and the Skinner before meeting his most dangerous foe, The Trinity Killer. While he ultimately kills Trinity, their conflict results in the death of his wife Rita. Dexter's life is left shattered after her death, realizing his psychopathy might not be as severe as he's forced to become a single father with his infant son Harrison.

Equipment:

  • Hunting Knife: Dexter has used and is trained in the usage of multiple knives, although his preferred blade is a hunting knife. A single-edged 8 inch steel blade with a metal handle, the hunting knife is Dexter's primary instrument for actually killing his target. In addition to his hunting knife, Dexter carries a small folding blade on his person in case he needs to defend himself while unprepared.
  • M-99 Tranquilizer: Dexter primarily uses a syringe filled with M-99 tranquilizer to subdue his victims prior to taking them to his kill room.
  • Garrote: When he is unable to acquire or utilize a tranquilizer to subdue a target, Dexter also has a steel garrote that he can use to suffocate and cut a target's neck to drag them to a different location while they are conscious.
  • Kill Room: Dexter always goes through elaborate preparation to ensure his kills go undiscovered. His kill room typically includes several sheets of plastic to collect any loose blood, duct tape and rope to restrain his target, and a variety of surgical cutting tools that help him disassemble a body, although he has and can improvise on the spot if he finds himself pressed for time and resources. One thing that remains constant through every kill room is Dexter's ritualistic desire to collect a blood sample from his victims, to the point that he often becomes stressed when he cannot collect the trophy.

Abilities

  • Stealth Expert: Dexter is incredibly stealthy as an individual, skilled at the infiltrating and stalking necessary for his serial killing. He regularly sneaks into his victim's houses or tails them in very public spaces, easily slipping in or out without being noticed even by trained individuals.
  • Skilled Hand-to-Hand Combatant: In the rare instances where he is caught, Dexter is a skilled martial artist trained in jujitsu. His hand-to-hand abilities have allowed him to surprise trained opponents like James Doakes, a former U.S. army ranger, and larger opponents such as Ray Speltzer, defeating them by virtue of the surprise of his skill.
  • Expert Investigator: Dexter is an incredibly thorough and intelligent investigator, often able to utilize his own intuition and the resources of the Miami P.D. to discover things that even law enforcement can't discover or glean from a person. His ability to think like a killer, on account of being one, allows him to intuit the thought processes and methods of other killers through minimal clues.
  • High Pain Tolerance: Dexter's tolerance for pain is surprisingly high, able to power through typically debilitating injuries through sheer force of will and adrenaline. He managed to defeat the Skinner despite breaking his own hand, as well as recovering from drugs that have been administered to him from other serial killers to escape.
  • Skilled Actor: Although untrained in acting, Dexter is a skilled actor and deceiver, often creating fake aliases and identities that allow him to investigate, interact with, and gain the trust of potential victims. He's intelligent enough to keep his false identities straight, and capable of crafting the stories needed to make them convincing.

Modus Operandi:

Dexter's M.O. is incredibly thorough and precise, often planning as much of his kill as he can prior to committing the act. While selecting a potential target, Dexter researches the target using police records or public information from afar. If he can, he also takes time to assume an alias and interact with his target at least once to see if he can glean a consistent killer's instinct in his target. Once he is confident in their guilt, Dexter buys the materials for his kill room and preps the area where he plans to commit the murder. Dexter either isolates the target in a secluded place or ambushes them at their home, before taking them to his kill room. After getting them to confront their guilt, Dexter kills them and then cuts apart the body to dump into the ocean.

X-Factors[]

X-Factor- Barry Berkman / Dexter Morgan

Experience- 80 / 70

In addition to seeing active combat as a U.S. Marine, Barry has developed an efficient and respected career as a hitman in the underworld. He's not only killed dozens of normal civilians, but has also assassinated various criminals and their henchmen in his time as a hired killer. Including his raid of the Bolivian stashhouse and the Burmese stronghold, Barry's an experienced soldier in pitched fights and assassination. Dexter has been an active serial killer for over a decade, with as much variety in victim as one could expect from that length of time. While he's rarely gotten into an actual fight before, some of his victims include career criminals and dirty law enforcement, as well as physically superior targets like Miguel Prado and the Skinner that force him to think more carefully prior to engaging.

Mental Health - 55 / 80

Barry's PTSD and anxiety have left him in a deeply fragile state mentally, especially in the aftermath of Fuches' betrayal. While throughout most days he can and does operate with a machine-like efficiency and calmness, the stress of recent events has left him prone to bouts of intense rage and occasional recklessness to accomplish a goal. Dexter's early childhood trauma has been controlled and tamed over years of training by his foster father Harry, making him seem quite normal as long as he can maintain his killing routine. New developments in his personal life have allowed him to grow as a person, to the point that only deeply personal conflicts cause him to recede into a rage that influences his rationality.

Training - 80 / 35

Barry's a trained U.S. Marine, with all the combat skills and abilities that implies. He's a highly skilled marksman, skilled combat operator, and trained hand-to-hand fighter. Dexter has received the conditioning from his Code of Harry and the forensic training for his job, as well as some martial arts training, but the bulk of what Dexter does is based on the trial and error teachings of experience.

Intelligence - 60 / 85

Barry's clearly capable of being intelligent, with the thought and planning that goes into his hits allowing him to gain a reputation in a good way. That being said, Barry is also tremendously bad at reading people and in social situations, often misunderstanding the gravity of an interaction or the impact of his actions on others beyond the surface level. Dexter's greatest asset as a serial killer is his intelligence, taking weeks to study his potential victims and learning their habits so as to complete a kill with the minimal chance of being discovered. His analytical and investigative skills as a forensic analyst allow him to pick up on things that most don't, and are further honed by his instinct and intelligence.
