"One rogue leads another"

-Homer

I wanted to make a battle Royale between a bunch of roguish figures in fiction. So here we go with it.

Robin Hood (2006 series).[]

Robin hood 2006

Born into nobility in the village of Lockley, Robin Locksley was a noble, soldier and bandit born in Nottinghamshire England. As a young man, he would follow King Richard the Lionheart on Crusade in the holy land, later returning to find his father dead and his lands under the yoke of the corrupt sheriff. Soon being forced onto the lamb as an outlaw, Robin would go about running a Guerrilla war against the Sheriff throughout the Sherwood forest.

Equipment.[]

Recurve bow: Robin used a Saracen recurve bow after retiring from the Crusades. While the exact range and draw weight of the bow is unknown, Robin is able to land hits which can pierce riveted mail at and is able to get multiple shots in a few seconds.

Scimitar: Robin used a scimitar when returning home from the crusades. Sword appeared to be around 3 feet long and had a 1 handed grip, having a deeply curved blade designed for slashing.

Abilities.[]

Martial arts: While most famously a skilled archer, Robin also skilled with many weapons. He's used both staves and multiple types of bladed weapons. He's also a decent hand to hand fighter, though nothing to write home about. But as many know, Robin was best known for his usage of the bow and arrow, being able to land handfuls of aimed shots within a few seconds at long range.

Stealth: Being a bandit who lives by robbing men in Sherwood, Robin and all of his men were highly skilled in stealth. He was able to both sneak around the Sherwood, get the drop on bandits of Nottingham soldiers, and regularly sneak into Nottingham castle.

Traits.[]

Leadership: Being the de facto leader of the merrymen, Robin showed himself to be both a likeable and charismatic leader in his time.

Combat experience: Being a former soldier, Robin has a solid base of combat experience. He spent years fighting in the east under the banner of Richard the Lionheart, risking his life on multiple occasions in the process.

Jack Sparrow (Pirates of the Caribbean).[]

Jack Sparrow 2003

A pirate captain born into a life of crime and conflict, Jack Sparrow was a Pirate captain and wanted criminal who lived and operated in the Caribbean. While born into piracy, Jack tried and failed to live a decent life, being branded a pirate and enemy of the crown. He would captain the Black Pearl before being betrayed by his own crew, being left to die on an abandoned island. He would escape and spend years trying to find his old ship, eventually getting revenge and retaking the Pearl.

Equipment.[]

Hanger: A simple but effective sword designed as a side/boarding arm. The sword is around 2 feet long with a single edge, being able to deliver deadly cuts and thrusts into opponents.

Pistol: A common flintlock pistol with a single barrel. The gun had a range going up to 30 yards, but with its effective range being much shorter. The gun held on 1 shot and had a roughly 15 seconds reload (Jack has 10 rounds on his person, 1 already in the gun). Being a flintlock however, the gun can still misfire or fire inadvertently if the powder is ignited.

Abilities.[]

Swordsmanship: Being an experienced Pirates who was a criminal his entire life, Jack developed skill in the usage of the sword. He was able to put up a serious fight against both Will and Barbossa in his fights with both. His style was common among swordsmen of his time, being based around one handed strikes and parries which was optimized in confined places.

Improvised combat: What made Jack special was his constant usage of his environment in combat, either improvising weapons or using the terrain against his enemy. This varys from using a noose rope and hammers as weapons, to using a ship's rigging and a pair of shackles as a zipline.

Traits.[]

Persuasive: While Jack’s more strange personality is a bit off putting to some, he’s still incredibly good at speaking his way through dire situations, doing some 3 time alone in Curse of the Black Pearl.

Master planner: While on the surface Jack may seem to be a drunken mess, he is reality a master of improvised planning. He is able to improvise up a masterful plan on the spot, even in sore seriously dire situations.

Bronn (A song of ice and fire).[]

Bronn Books

Born in the land of Westeros, Bronn was a mercenary who would end up working for Tyrion Lannister. Being born in relative poverty and squalor, Bronn would grow up with a minimal respect for human life and a strong wish to leave his station in society. He would become a mercenary at some point in his Adult life before being called to arrest Tyrion Lannister by Lady Catelyn. In an amazing change of face, Bronn would eventually defend Tyrion in a trial by combat, winning the fight and becoming Tyrion's personal body guard up until Tyrion was forced to flee to Esso after being falsely accused of killing the king.

Equipment.[]

Longsword: Bronn is described using a longsword of fairly unremarkable design in combat. Being a longsword, the weapon would've had a 2 handed grip, a crossguard and a double edge blade around 3 feet in length.

Armor: Bronn was dressed in a set of common armor. He wore a boiled leather jacket under a black ringmail hauberk, an iron half helm with a nasal and a mail coif. The armor gave him fine protection, but also allowed for very good mobility.

Abilities.[]

Dirty fighting tactics: Bronn doesn’t fight fair or fight cleanly. In combat he tends to keep his distance, using his advanced agility and mobility to keep at an arm's length from his foe. He also uses the terrain to his advantage, which he did when he pushed a statue onto ser Vardis in his duel with him.

Swordsmanship: Bronn is a damn fine swordsman despite his lack of defined formal training. In his time, he was able to fight through waves of hill tribesmen, groups of Stark infantry alongside Tyrion and beat set Vardis in a duel even while far less armored.

Traits.[]

Ambitious: Being a sell sword who wants both cash and political power, Bronn was willing to do many things to become rich. He aided Tyrion solely because he knew he was rich, and went on to do a lot of killing, murdering and arresting to become more powerful.

Amoral: Bronn, while at times charming, is far from being a decent or moral man. He’s absolutely fine with murdering people, is fine with murdering innocent people, leaves his friends to die to save his own coffers, and made clear he was willing to murder infants.

Westley (Princess bride).[]

Westley

Born in the land of Florin as a peasant working on a fine estate, Westley was a former peasant of current Pirate marauder. Working for the noble woman Buttercup, the two would form a romantic relationship, which itself only ended when Westley left to get work and never returned. He would be forced onto the crew of the Dread pirate Roberts, eventually taking up the title after his boss retired and soon after trying to rescue the now imprisoned Buttercup. He would be captured and tortured to death in the process, eventually being revived and saved by the Spaniard Inigo Montoya and Fezzik the giant.

Equipment.[]

Rapier: A common rapier which Westley used throughout his journey to find Buttercup. The rapier was of a common design, having a swept hilt and normal blade. The weapon was roughly 3 and a half feet long and had a thrusting blade designed to pierce flesh.

Abilities.[]

Rapier fencing: Having been trained by the previous Dread pirate Roberts, Westley was an incredible rapier fencer. He was able to out fence Inigo Montoya is a duel (guy trained hard for 20 years in many schools of fighting), and was well versed himself in many different schools of fighting including the teachings of Capo Ferro, Beneti, Agrippa and Thibault.

Acrobatics: Westley showed to be an incredibly athletic and acrobatic young man. He could scale cliffs by rope at speeds matching the giant Fezzik and was able to perform flips, lunges and pirouettes with ease.

Traits.[]

Honorable: Despite being a marauding dread pirate, Westley maintained a level of honor. He sparred both Fezzik and Inigo in his fights with them and willingly sparred prince Humperdinck even after the man effectively killed him and stole away his girlfriend.

Determined: Westley was generally a very dedicated man, risking life and limb in his attempts to rescue his lady love (he was burned and beaten by the time he emerged from the fire swamp).

Practical Severard (First law).[]

Severard

Born in filth and squalor on the streets of Adua, Severard was a criminal handyman and inquisitor practical to Sand Dan Glokta. Severard would be born into poverty in Adua, spending most of his childhood as a street rat and later as a criminal handyman in a smokehouse. After his mother died, he would eventually find his way into the folds of the inquisition, falling under the command of Sand Dan Glokta and working alongside the monstrous Albino known as Frost.

Equipment.[]

Dagger: Severard was noted as carrying a very large and very gnarly looking dagger. The dagger is artistically shown as being very big, being a good 12 inches long with a sharp single edged blade.

Practicals garb: While not incredibly well defined, we know that Severard wore the uniform of the practicals. While not thoroughly described, the comic shows it as a thick leather tunic with lengthened lapel, a pair of thick gloves and a mask. All of these items would give some protection, being made of stuff leather and being visibly layered, meaning it would give minor levels of protection.

Abilities.[]

Martial arts: Being a practical, Severard was used to both torture, arrests and detaining struggling criminals. We see him grappling and beating down dozens if not hundreds of people alongside his partner frost in his long career. He’s also quite good in combat with a dagger, though not incredibly skilled. His best combat skill however comes from his usage of detaining and dealing with enemies in ambushes when they aren’t expecting it.

Stealth: Severard was a very good sneak and a very good thief, with a life of criminal experience on top of his nasty dealings as a practical. He was adept at sneaking, silently breaking into houses on arrests (almost never with incident) and being able to get the drop on his victims (with his arrest of the master of the mints being a fine example). While not exactly stealth, he’s also a master lock-picker.

Traits.[]

Sadistic: Being an inquisitor’s practical, Severard wasn’t just skilled at causing pain, but seemed deeply enjoy inflicting it. Be it during torture sessions or during kidnappings, he seemed to enjoy causing pain to his victims.

Loyal: Despite his roguish and sadistic nature, Severard remained loyal to his boss Glokta. He stayed loyal through rather rough times and even in situations where selling Glokta out would’ve been better for his safety.

Scenario[]

Roman Domus

The battle will be set on an ancient Roman Domus (which is sadly potrayed rather poorly in this image, but its the best one I could find which actually gives a good view of the rooms). which is itself floating around in a sort of strange miniature dome reality which ends only a few yards outside of the bonds of the house. All will wake up in different areas completely obvious to how they got their, but with a vellum scroll on their person tell them the deal (Except Bronn, who's illiterate. His scroll will be a sort of visual comic which conveys the same information). The scroll will say that they are stuck here and can only escape if they kill all the only surviving man in the building.

The starting point list is as follows:

  • Robin awakes just outside the front door, staring off into the star filled void only 10 feet before him.
  • Jack will awake in the first dining room on the left, door closed
  • Bronn will awake in the top left bedroom, the door closee.
  • Westley will awake in the Gardens, beneath a large fern.
  • Severard will start in the small room farthest too right, beside the garden room.

Voting information[]

The voting is in order from greatest to least, with the first to die being in 5th place and the survivor being in first.

To have your votes count, they must have at least a 2 sentence long explanation for why you believe that said warrior is in the place they are. Rebuttals from other users reduce said vote to a half vote until the changes are made or a rerebuttal is made. Keep the debates civil.

  • Robin will be used as of the end of season 1 of the 2006 series.
  • Jack will be used as of the "Curse of the Black Pearl".
  • Bronn will be used of the end of "A Clash of Kings".
  • Westley will be used from the film adaptation of "Princess Bride".
  • Severard will be used as of "The Blade itself".
