I decided to do this battle since both Thor and Hercules are themselves fairly similar as characters. While they differ greatly in terms of personality and ideals, they fulfill the function of being a great heroic cultural hero, with Thor being one of the most prayed too of the Æsir and Hercules being considered by many to be the most popular Greco-Roman hero. They both are also incredibly powerful figures as well, being considered as some of the physically strongest beings in their own respective mythologies. So without further adieu, here is Hercules vs. Thor.
Hercules[]
Being an illegitimate child from one of Zeus's many affairs, Hercules suffered the wrath of Zeus's wife, Hera, throughout his life. When Hera caused him to go into a fit of rage and murder his wife and children, Hercules sought redemption and was instructed by the Oracle of Delphi to pledge his service to the Mycenaean King Eurystheus. Eurystheus ordered Hercules to complete ten, later twelve seemingly impossible labors. These tasks including the killing of monsters like the Hydra and the Nemean Lion, and quests for fabulous treasures, like the Girdle of the Amazon Queen Hippolyta and the golden Apples of the Hesperides. Against all odds, Hercules completed all the challenges. At the end of his life, Hercules's mortal half was separated from him by Zeus, and he rose to Olympus and became a god.
Equipment[]
Hunting bow: The most commonly used weapon by Hercules during his 12 tasks. While its unknown the exact proportions of this bow, it is always shown as being massively large and beefy, meaning its draw weight is likely very high. Hercules was shown using this bow with incredible accuracy, being able to shoot down the Stymphalian Birds.
Club: A simple club made from a large olive branch. Hercules first used this club after failing to kill the Nemean lion with his sword, using the club to land a concussing blow against the Lion before strangling it. It was also later used by Hercules during several of his fights monsters, though the extent of his usage of it is unknown. Despite it being a simple hunk of wood, the Club was itself strong enough to withstand Herc's world lifting strength without breaking.
Hydra poison arrow: A set of arrows which Hercules originally made after killing the Hydra. After defeating the Drake, he decided to dip a number of his arrow heads in the creatures venom. This made them incredibly deadly, making even a grazing blow potentially fatal due to how potent the poison was. Even if a foe could withstand the fatal effects of the Poison, the poison still causes agonizing pain and discomfort.
Nemean Lion skin: A durable and powerful animal skin worn by Hercules after he defeated the Lion. The Lion famously had a nearly invulnerable hide, with it being able to turn the attacks of bladed or pointed weapons, though it had no special defense against bludgeoning damage, as Hercules was able to concuss the Lion by striking it across the face.
Thor[]
The ever-famous Thor is the Norse god of thunder. The son of Odin and Frigga, king and queen of Asgard, Thor is competitive and adventurous. He often travels through Jötunheim in search of combat and excitement, picking fights with the Æsir's enemies, The Jotunn(Anti-gods or Devourers). Like all of the Norse gods, Thor is bound by fate to meet his death at Ragnarök, the final battle that will end the world. Thor's ultimate enemy is Jörmungandr, the serpent that encircles the world, and has been ever since Thor attempted to kill the beast in its youth. At Ragnarök, Thor will finally kill his rival just moments before dying himself.
Equipment[]
Mjölnir: A powerful one handed war hammer. It was originally forged by the Dwarf Brokkr, being a large Iron headed hammer with a short handle. In combat Thor mainly used the hammer as either a close combat weapon or a strange thrown weapon. Beyond packing an almost mountain shattering punch, Mjölnir was able to generate an aura of crackling lightning when throw or swung, improving its already massive damage.
Járngreipr: A set of magical gauntlets which Thor used to aid his usage of his great hammer Mjölnir. These gauntlets allowed him to summon Mjolnir back to his hand after throwing it. They also appeared to be incredibly durable, with them allowing Thor to grab a blob of molten metal in his hands without taking damage.
Megingjörð: A powerful magic belt which helped increase Thor's own massive strength. It can be assumed that most of Thor's feat strength were made while he was wearing this belt.
X-factors[]
Physicality[]
Being a half god, Hercules was a much more physically powerful being then most other living beings on the material plane. Over the course of his adventures he faced down several powerful beings like the Nemean lion and the bull of Crete. During his time he showed that he was a very powerful physical figure, with his biggest feat being his ability to hold up the weight of the sky in place of Atlas. He wasn't just physically strong, but also had an incredible impressive constitution, being able to withstand blows from creatures like Cerberus and the Cretan bull. He also had a highly impressive level of stamina, doing back breaking work for hours and chasing the Cerynian Hind in the wilds for a full year.
Being a member of the Æsir, Thor was himself a much more physically powerful being then most other living beings within the 9 realms. In combat he was able to fight his way through many foul creatures, often battling with the Jotunn(Anti-god or Devourer). During his time he showed incredible physical power, being able to lift sections of the gargantuan serpent Jörmungandr, a feat so great that some feared if he'd lifted even more, it may have endangered the 9 realms. But he wasn't just strong, but also had an impressive constitution. He was able to survive getting a massive whetstone wedged into his head with little issue and was able to survive long enough after being hit by Jörmungandr's poison to kill the beast.
Experience[]
During his time as a hero and warrior, Hercules was pitted against many powerful creatures. He was able to fight several massive monsters, with the Nemean Lion, Cretan Bull, the giant tri-man Geryon and even the hound Cerberus. After completing his tasks, Hercules continued to journey the world, eventually combatting several gods and even single handedly sacked the city of Troy.
As the main defender and warrior elite of the Æsir, Thor had an extensive warring career. He was often shown as being the main warrior of the Æsir, often leading the Æsir from the front into battle. While he battled against many foes, he most often battle's with the Jötnar (The Anti-Gods or Devourers).
Scenario[]
Both warriors will meet each other in a mountainous landscape. Both warriors will meet each other in the field, with both randomly seeing each other and seeing the other as a threat (Hercules will likely see Thor as some dangerous Barbarian and Thor will likely see Hercules as some strange Jotunn(Devourer or Anti-god)).
Prologue[]
Upon the great slopes of a great craggy mountain range, the heroic Hercules roamed. He'd been following the tracks of massive creature for nearly a week, with it having been made its way into these mountains. But during the pervious night the creatures tracks ran cold. And as of that morning, he had given up hope. He continued to make his way in the direction of the beasts foot prints, but knee he had lost it. But as he walked along a section of plateaued cliff, he heard a mightily smashing sound followed by an incredible thud. He peaked over the edge of the cliff and look down.
Nearly 50 feet below the ancient plateaued cliff, the Norse hero Thor stood. Before lay the dead body of a cyclopean beast, which itself stood nearly 20 feet in high. He'd come across the monster while traveling through the mountains. He stood over the the monsters corpse, it's head sundered in two. He held his mighty hammer Mjölnir in hand, its front striking point clotted with blood and brain. He suck laughed at the monster, letting out a mighty bellowing chuckle.
Seeing this, Hercules look down in a mixture of disgust and anger. This foreign Barbarian had stolen his rightful kill. He scowled as he stared down from the cliffs. He then drew up an arrow, its razor point foul with Draconian venom, and knocked it. Standing to his full height, he drew back the bow and aimed it at his foe. But at the moment of went to release the missile, the his foot slid across a damp stone, throwing of his aim by a hairs breadth. Hurtling through the air, the missile missed Thor, instead piercing into the ground just beside his leg. Looking up at the cliffs above him, he saw Hercules standing, dressed in a lions skin. Thinking him a Jotunn, Thor took immediate action, reeling back with his hammer in hand before slinging forwards towards his foe.
