GWM Episode 6: Albert Mayer v Henry Gunther
It is two my knowledge that WWI is the first modern conflict to have detailed records of it's combatants, including those who wound up being deceased and in what order they fell in; at least to a point. Which is why today we round out the Great War Memorial Series with a battle between the first and last military casualties of the Great War (not counting the continuing bloodshed in Russia). We have Prussian Cavalryman Albert Mayer of the German Empire, against American Infantryman Henry Gunther. We present the first and the last, and it'll be up to the voter to determine which of these men shall meet death again.
It feels appropriate to start with Albert Mayer. Mayer enlisted in the German Army at the age of 20 in 1912. His family had been l…
April Fool's Presidential Duels: Beatdown
The American President has always been a shining beacon to the world, that truly anyone can be a leader should they possess enough money willpower to push themselves. However, we forget that Presidents too are people, and to provide the users with their normal bread & circuses while I plot in vain my last two GWM Battles, I offer up a treat that is sure to entertain even the most dour and apathetic voters user. Please, now feast your eyes.
- Big George had dentures made of about everything under the sun, even the teeth of his slaves. Sadly, the myth about wood is not true. Not that we are aware of, anyway.
- Old Hickory was the first President to ride on a train.
- Honest Abe was the tallest president on record, and the first to ever be assassinated.
- Un…
GWM Episode 5: Rene Fonck vs. Manfred von Richtofen
WWI saw the first use of massed air warfare. There had been planes used during the Revolution/Civil War in Mexico, but those were lonely recon planes who's pilots took potshots at each other with revolvers before waving at each other. WWI saw rapid firing machine guns affixed to the aircraft and the knights of the sky were able to know duel in the air with a kind of grace. So we have some very fine examples of WWI's Knights of the Air. We have Manfred von Richtofen: The Ace-of-Aces, the highly feared Red Baron with 80 confirmed air kills. He will match his skills against the Rene Fonck, the War's second-highest scoring Air Ace, and the highest scoring ace of the Entente. We shall all watch agast as throughout the skies in a never ending da…
GWM Episode 4: John Jellicoe vs. Alekxander Kolchak
The Great War saw the last great ship-to-ship battles in history; where you could see your enemy and feel the thunder as they all fired. No carriers, no planes: just Grand Old Battleships and escorts duking it out with some elbow grease. So, we have two of the Grandest Admirals to come out of this war now ready to battle it out and show us who finally rules the waves! John Jellicoe, the man who led the Royal Grand Fleet through the destruction at Jutland and later First Sea Lord; and Alexander Kolchak, Commander of the Baltic Fleet, and later General and Supreme Ruler of Russia.
As probably inferred, this will be a 6 v 6 Scenario set in open waters dotten with a few islands but no coastline.
Other than that, I'd like to give a shout out to …
GWM Episode 3: Alvin York vs. Anibal Milhais
As the saying goes, "War brings out the worst in mankind, but it also brings out the best." What man is capable of is often brought out in the most stressful of moments; superhuman feats of carnage and courage are brought forth by pushing one's mentality to the limits, and those who don't break are often able to perform above and beyond what duty calls them to do. Today, we look at a famous story of such performance; and a lesser known story of equally brave courage.
My only notes are that this battle will be a 10 v 10 match. 8 Rifles, 1 MG, 1 Officer on each side. Because of how their famous stories rolled: Alvin will start equipped with a rifle; Anibal will start equipped with a Lewis. The Battle will take place in a scared, shell-cratere…
