Marv vs Kadyo

Gangsters, detective, spies and femme fatale, the Noir genre maybe dead but its influences spread all across media. And today on Deadliest Fiction, I have decided to pit two Noir-style criminals in an urban battle to the death.

Marv: The large burly but friendly thug from Basin City!

vs

Kadyo: The cunning and brutal bandit from the Philippines!

Let's all curb the homelessness problem... one battle at a time! WHO IS DEADLIEST?!

Marv[]

Millerdesign3

I'll stare the bastard in the face as he screams to God, and I'll laugh harder when he whimpers like a baby. And when his eyes go dead, the hell I send him to will seem like heaven after what I've done to him. - Marv

Marv was one of the protagonist of the graphic novel and later film adaptation Sin City. A boorish thug with no aim but to fight anyone at anytime, Marv was born in The Projects and grew up with a rough childhood. He was very protective of his doting mother, who eventually got sick forcing them to move to a better part of town. The Projects had already toughened him up, and left with it's residents as useful allies. Some time after that Marv joined the army and went to an unnamed war (heavily implied to be Vietnam) where he probably developed his scars. He also would later suffer from a 'condition' (that might have been Post Traumatic Stress Disorder). He took pills for it and always had a respectful fear of his 'condition', fearing he would turn into 'what they always said I'd turn into - A psycho killer'.

Throughout the different yarns of the comic, Marv became entangled in a lot of trouble, mostly helping out his friends Dwight McCarthy and Nancy Callahan. His physical strength and intimidating appearance, as well as his code of honor, proved him a worthy friend for many. However, Marv would eventually found his demise when he met a girl by the name of Blondie. After she was killed while in his custody, Marv waged a one-man war against the Roark family who was responsible for her death. Although the toughie managed to kill many Roark members like the Priest and Kevin, he was eventually apprehended and executed via electric chair. Since then, Marv became a well-known local legend throughout Basin City.

Kadyo[]

Kadyo

Remember this. Everything I want, I get, and there's no one who can stop me. - Kadyo

Kadyong Kirat, although more known by his alias Kadyo, is a Filipino bandit and anti-villain protagonist of the film and comics Hindi Ako Susuko ("I Will Never Surrender"). He is a ruthless and merciless criminal who raided barrios from his hideout in the mountains. In the 2000 Eastern Visayas translation, Kadyo is said to be a leader of a Waray-Waray Gang. For many years, the police had tried in vain to capture him multiple times but failed. Things would change in Kadyo's life when he met and started lusting on a young woman by the name of Celia.

He took the opportunity to kidnap Celia during one of his raids. Although he tried to be friendly with her, his reputation caused fear and resentment from the girl. In a gruesome scene, Kadyo finally had enough of Celia and raped her in his bedroom, before locking her up as his captive. The sexual assault resulted in Celia becoming pregnant, and when Kadyo soon found out, he did everything to take care of her. This surprised Celia and the two eventually bonded together in their love for the unborn child. When Celia went into labor, Kadyo brought in a midwife and a doctor. But unbeknownst to him, the doctor had betrayed his location to the police. His hideout was soon surrounded and although initially wanting to fight in a last stand, Celia intervened and asked Kadyo to surrender. She had finally succumbed to her Stockholm syndrome, and begged Kadyo to live for her and their baby. After finally having people who loves him, Kadyo finally surrendered to the authorities. Nowadays, Kadyo is pretty much a Filipino meme on just how aweful his story was.

X-Factors[]

Although never officially proven, its been implied that Marv did serve in the military. There were hints in the story of his career and how he got his scars. Presumably, he served in the Vietnam War where got PTSD. While we don't really knew much about his career, Marv still had a training advantage. Kadyo on the other hand, doesn't have any sort of professional training. He is a knowledgeable gangster and bandit who could live in the mountains, but he still lack any police or military background. He was probably self-taught.

But while Kadyo was probably self-taught, he did make up when it came to experience. At worst, Marv was someone who killed sadist college kids; at worst he could take on serial killers and the SWAT. Kadyo on the other hand fought and won against people who are supposed to be better trained than him. He fought the police numerous times and even went against the Special Action Force; special commandos for the PNP and AFP.

Easy to say, Marv was one hell of a monster. Towering over 7'9 feet tall, the guy was almost superhuman. He can crush a man's head with his bare hands, dual-wield shotguns, survive getting shot at in the abdomen, or hit multiple times with a car. At one point, he moved quickly enough to escape a gunman's sights before he could fire. Hell, the dude can snap your arm just as easy as one snaps a twig. In his execution, it took two consecutive jolts from the electric chair to even kill Marv.

Kadyo is pretty strong and fast as well, being able to weave from the gunsights of his enemies as well. As a gunslinger he can draw and take down someone before they could fire. He's also a marksman with his rifle, being able to pull off head shots against armored Special Action Forces. But he lacks the inhuman strength and durability of the one and only legend of Sin City.

Although he has a tough demeanor, Marv was actually a pleasant and calm soul who only fought when he or his friends are provoked. Nonetheless, when he fought, he'll charge straight on and use his strength to his advantage. Though mostly effective, this tactic sometimes bite him in the ass against more cunning opponent. Marv is capable of planning, but as seen during his fight with Kevin, he only plans after his initial tactic of charging straight on fails. It also doesn't help that he has a lot of metal problems, such as short-term amnesia, hallucinations and fits.

For all his anti-social characteristics, Kadyo is a shrewd gangster. As a robber, he was capable of thinking of ways to get as much loot while being able to escape or outfight the police. He can plan large heists and even think on the fly if things don't go according to plan (at one point he got ambushed and surrounded by the constabulary in a valley and still survived). His intellect was one of the reason why he's been able to successfully raid for so long, and the police couldn't do anything at that time. He was only defeated when he had a change of heart and surrendered.

Read First![]

  • Battle takes place in a Noir-inspired neutral street filled with cars, buildings, dames... you name it.
  • The scenario will be like this. Kadyo has been tasked to assassinate Marv by a certain employer. The battle will not instantly begin in a gunfight, as Kadyo plans how he could kill Marv. Eventually, the result will end up questioning whether Kadyo has the tools and skills to be able to find a way to kill Marv who's almost superhuman. This would hopefully also put the bandit's intellect into consideration.

Expert's Opinion[]

Voters believed that while Marv's superhuman strength and durability would have meant certain death for Kadyo, they eventually agreed that the bandit's better weapons and intellect would prove too much for the brute.
