Will Anthonio Zeppeli[]

William A Zeppeli
What is "courage"? "Courage" is knowing fear and making that fear your own!
— Will Anthonio Zeppeli

Baron Will Anthonio Zeppeli is a major supporting character in Phantom Blood, the first arc of the manga series JoJo's Bizarre Adventure and its various adaptations. Having witnessed the horrors that vampires and the stone mask that creates them can cause, Zeppeli had made it his personal life mission to kill all vampires and destroy the stone mask. During this quest he took Jonathan Joestar as his apprentice. Born to a scholarly family, Zeppeli had been interested in researching the unknown since his youth. When he became of age, he joined the archaeological group at his father's university and was able to travel to various places around the world. On one of these travels, they found an ancient stone mask. One night his father tried the mask on and accidentally activated it, turning him into a vampire. Overcome with bloodlust he killed the entire crew, except for Zeppeli himself, before burning up in the morning sun and letting the mask be carried away by the waves. Knowing the harm the mask can cause, Zeppeli began to research its whereabouts while looking for a way to kill the vampires it spawned. Eventually, Zeppeli found himself under the training of Ripple master Tonpetty and ended up becoming a Ripple master himself After hearing that Jonathan defeated Dio Brando, the then owner of the stone mask, Zeppeli presented himself to Jonathan and volunteered to teach him the Ripple after using it to heal Jonathan's shattered arm. During their travels to Dio's lair, Zeppeli taught Jonathan how to use Ripple while occasionally fighting off Dio's minions. In the end, he sacrificed himself, allowing Jonathan to kill the zombie knight Tarkus.

Powers & Abilities[]

  • Hamon:Hamon is an ancient breathing technique which is designed to produce powerful ripple-like energy. It is the main fighting technique used by the Baron. As a master of the art, Zeppeli could perform several combat and utility abilities. However, as a breathing art, attacks to the airways could be crippling to a hamon user's abilities.
    • Overdrive: A simple ability, where the user channels Hamon into either a limb or an object. This made any hamon attack strong against undead, but also increased the attack’s damage, being able to throw enemies back and break stones.
      • Sendō Ripple Overdrive: A special variation of the overdrive attack in which Zeppeli charges a Ripple wave through his arm and releases it into a solid object, such as a wall or partition. The Ripple can travel through and reach anything on the other side, and anything hit by the Ripple is sent flying in a spiral. If the enemy is an Undead, the Ripple will enter their bloodstream and destroy them from the inside. Zeppeli first uses it by transferring the Ripple through a frog in order to shatter a rock below it.
      • Sunlight Yellow Overdrive:Another special variation of the overdrive attack that works when sunlight is available. Using the power of sunlight, Zeppeli is able to transfer the Ripple through his body into another being, causing burn damage to enemies.
      • Tornado Overdrive:Zeppeli leaps into the air and points his legs towards his opponent. From here, he is able to move the Ripple to his lower half and essentially dive-bombs the opponent in a spinning motion, much like a drill.
    • Zoom Punch: A technique which artificially lengthens the attackers arms by temporarily dislocating it before healing it back into place. This move has a lot of power in it, and can be used to get the drop on an unsuspecting enemy.
    • Sendo Wave Kick:By infusing ripple into his knee, the Baron leaps and strikes his opponent with his knees, dealing concentrated damage.
    • Hamon Cutter: By infusing hamon into a liquid which he shoots out from between his teeth, Zeppeli can create a deadly hamon infused liquid disc. These hamon cutters are very powerful, capable of being spat out in numbers, and strong enough to cut through steel knives.
    • Seated Jump: Zeppeli can perform a high jump from a seated position, being able to leap well over 15 feet into the air, allowing him to cover terrain and perform surprise attacks.
    • Healing: Zeppeli was capable of healing injuries with Hamon. Just within himself, we’ve seen him mend a wounded leg and even repair frostbitten necrotic tissue which composed almost his whole arm. We’ve also seen Hamon users heal broken bones before, along with healing gangrene. The healing process is not instant and may vary or prolong itself depending the degree of the injuries.
  • Peak human physical condition:As with most JoJo characters, the Baron is incredibly strong. He was strong enough to knock Jonathan, a very muscular man, away with a single punch. He was very acrobatic, being able to dodge strikes from Tarkus, a powerful undead soldier. He is also very durable and capable of taking a lot of damage.
  • Skilled unarmed combatant:The Baron is a skilled fighter, capable of holding his own in unarmed combat against undead beings.

Equipment[]

  • Wine: Zeppeli has brought wine with him into battle before, using it as ammo for his Hamon cutter. For his fight, he will start out with a bottle of wine and he will be allowed to pick up similar equipment from the environment.

Ryuukou Yanagi[]

Yanagi render 2018
The only poison I use is the one we all have to breathe all the time. Our body makes us do it constantly!
— Ryuukou Yanagi to Baki

Ryuukou Yanagi (柳 龍光) is a character from anime and manga series of Baki. He serves as a major antagonist for the death row inmates arc.

In his younger years, Yanagi was a student of martial artist Kunimatsu, who specialized in assassination and using poison in combat. Under his mentor, Yanagi started perfecting the technique known as Poison Hand. Eventually he became so good at this technique that he earned the nickname "Yanagi the Poisoner". Later, he was eventually imprisoned for unknown circumstances. During his imprisionment, he used fellow inmates to practice his Vacuum Palm techniques, killing them in the process, leading to him being placed on death row.

In the death row inmates arc of Baki, he escaped from the prison to seek for defeat. In order to achieve his goal, he alongside four other inmates went on rampages in Tokyo, during which he challenged and ambushed several martial artists, including Shibukawa and Baki. He even defeated Baki at one point with his signature technique. At the end, he found defeat at the hands of Motobe and Yujiro.

Powers & Abilities[]

  • Poison hand:After applying a series of rituals to his right hand, Yanagi has transformed this body part of his into a deadly killing weapon. The hand itself is covered with a special breed of poison and is capable of unleashing it onto the enemy once a successful strike is made. The poison is an organic combination that affects the opponent's nerves. A small amount near the eyes can cause blindness. If it reaches the blood stream, it kills the person by making them rot from the inside out, right down to the bone. The poison is also implied to be fast acting. There are only two effective ways to recover from it - you either have Baki or Yujiro's physiology, or you travel to China and fight Kaioh Li, a martial artist whose technique produces another poison that counters this breed of poison. Despite its deadly power, removing or disabling this hand will be a serious blow to this technique's user.
  • Vacuum palm:Yanagi creates an air vacuum in the palm of his two hands. He primarily uses this technique to knock someone unconscious by forcing them to breathe a dangerously low oxygen level. In addition, he can use this technique to quickly shatter bulletproof glass and concrete walls by placing his hands on them. He can also use it to blow air through an opponent's ear to blow their organs out of the other ear.
  • Whip strike:Yanagi can render his limbs into a half-fluid-like state and then proceeds to "slap" his opponent mercilessly with these limbs. The slaps are strong enough to easily rip the opponent's skin off.
  • Peak human physical condition:Yanagi is a Baki character, so naturally he is significantly stronger than conventional humans. He is capable of keeping up with borderline superhuman characters such as Baki and Shibukawa. He can tank a great deal of damage. He can keep on fighting efficiently even when bleeding heavily. He survived getting his face partially disfigured by Yujiro out of all people.
  • Master martial artist:Yanagi is a master martial artist who is highly skilled in both unarmed and armed combat, thanks to his training under Kunimatsu, self-training and extensive experience of fighting other martial artists.

Equipment[]

  • Twin sickles:Yanagi carries two sickles. He ties ropes to the end of the sickles so that he can swing them around, extending their ranges. He is very adept at hiding these weapons under his jacket without getting noticed and using them to deal precise damage.
  • Katana: Yanagi carries a normal-sized katana with him.
  • Clawed brass knuckles: Yanagi is shown to wear clawed brass knuckles. The clawed spikes of the knuckles is likely rubbed with poison, although not explicitly stated.
  • Needles: Yanagi carries dozens of needles with him which have all been submerged in poison. They are hidden in his clothes.

X-factors[]

Physicality[]

Both men are incredibly strong due to being JoJo and Baki characters. Zeppeli can match speed with superhuman monsters such as vampires, while Yanagi can match speed with individuals like Baki. Both men are capable of fighting for long periods of time without stopping and tanking a shit ton of damage.

Training & Experience[]

Both of these men have received extensive training from experts in their fields. Zeppeli met up Tonpetty as a young man and has gone through decades of rigorous training to perfect his Hamon. Yanagi also started training under Kunimatsu early in his career.

In terms of experience, Zeppeli fought Dio, Tarkus and various other undead creatures during his brief time with Jonathan, whom he mentored. Although his combat experience prior to this is unknown, it is likely that he has fought at least several similar undead enemies judging from the knowledge and proficiency he showcased in Phantom Blood. However, he was defeated and killed during the battle against Tarkus. As for Yanagi, he killed a lot of inmates and armed police officers during his time in prison and his escape. After his escape, he battled some of the best martial artists in Baki Universe, including Baki himself, Motobe and Shibukawa. He handily defeated Hector Doyle, a fellow inmate and enhanced, half-cyborg human. He fought Baki & Shibukawa at the same time, held his own against the duo, and even defeated Baki in their first encounter by using his poison hand technique. Prior to this story arc, Yanagi has already gained notoriety as a killer and at one point defeated a young Shibukawa, removing one of his eyes.

Intelligence & Creativity[]

Both men are very intelligent and creative. Both Hamon and Yanagi's hand techniques require a great deal of intelligence to master and utilize effectively. Both men have researched their own fighting styles, tested their own limits and come up with original technique or original usage of established technique.

Brutality[]

Zeppeli is brutal toward monsters such as the undead and vampires, but it's unknown how brutal he would be towards a human enemy as we never see him taking action against a human enemy. Yanagi, on the other hand, is an extremely brutal death row inmate who has no qualms about killing people.

Fighting Style & Combat Personality[]

Zeppeli is a practical fighter as he combats inhuman threats such as vampires and the undead on a regular basis. While he sometimes goes for showmanship, rarely does he let this affect the actual combat. He is heavily focused on defeating his enemies and will never engage in activities that affect combat performance. In terms of tactics, however, he does not employ any specific plans and usually takes a hands-on approach of combat by launching direct attacks at enemies.

Yanagi, despite his brutality, is a man who enjoys challenge and interested in martial arts. When he does not feel challenged, he sometimes does not kill an opponent downright (example being in his first encounter with Shibukawa after escaping the prison, he successfully launch a surprise attack on Shibukawa which could have killed him, but he stopped before striking the killing blow, only making a statement that Shibukawa had grown old and rusty). He is also very sadistic, willing to kill opponents in gruesome ways. In actual combat, he usually does not start with poison hand. Instead, he tends to start with other techniques to gauge the capability of his opponents as shown in his fight with Baki. Only when he feels it is the perfect chance will he launch a surprise but deadly strike with poison hand.

Scenario[]

The fight starts in a modern-day convenient store located in a small village. Fighters can secure victory by either killing the enemy or simply knocking the enemy out, preventing them from continuing fighting.

Voting will end on July 4th.
