Huntrix[]

Huntrix, stylized HUNTR/X, is a K-pop group and the latest generation of a trio of demon hunters tasked with protecting humanity and maintaining the Honmoon, a barrier that prevents demons from slipping into the human world, by lifting the spirits of their fans and turning it into the impenetrable and everlasting Golden Honmoon. Huntrix's mission was complicated by the arrival of the Saja Boys, a demon boy band looking to steal their fans and weaken the Honmoon to allow the demons unlimited access to the human world. This almost led to Huntrix breaking up and the Honmoon being permanently destroyed before the trio managed to restore the Honmoon and once again banish the demons to the underworld.

- Weapons: Huntrix can manifest their weapons from thin air at will, allowing them to arm themselves swiftly. Zoey especially makes frequent use of this, allowing her to throw as many knives as she wishes. Their weapons are strong enough to cut through wood and stone, and one-shot demons effortlessly. To see more specifics about Huntrix's weapons, look at their tabs.
- Energy Manipulation: Both Rumi and Mira demonstrated the ability to create waves of energy that instantly killed large groups of demons, though it did not damage their fellow hunters or the area, so it presumably only hurts demons. Rumi also demonstrated the ability to create a protective barrier with her sword to block the flames spewed by the demon king Gwi-Ma, though she was getting overwhelmed until Jinu intervened. Lastly, Huntrix was able to use their energy manipulation to make a safe landing after jumping from a crashing airplane.
- Superhuman Physicality: Huntrix frequently physically overpowers demons, who are strong enough to tear a plane apart with their bare hands. They are also shown picking up and throwing demons so hard that they ricochet off solid surfaces, and one shot a demon with a solid kick. Huntrix is also shown to be agile, frequently leaping great distances and running along walls.
- Skill: Huntrix's general fighting style seems to rely on speed, using fluid motions to take their opponents down as quickly as possible before moving on to the next, allowing them to take on larger groups of enemies with relative ease despite being outnumbered. They also demonstrate hand-to-hand combat skills, seemingly favoring kicks and using submission holds against the demons in their first on-screen fight.
Fighter Specific[]

| “ | ♫ Heels, nails, blade, mascara! ♫
— Rumi
|
” |
The lead vocalist and leader of Huntrix, Rumi is the daughter of Ryu Miyeong, a member of the previous generation of demon hunters known as the Sunlight Sisters, and an unnamed demon, making her a half-demon. With her mother dying when she was young, Rumi was raised by Celine, one of the other Sunlight Sisters, who taught her to hide the demonic part of herself, even from the other members of Huntrix. This would lead to deep-rooted insecurity, but also allowed her to connect with Jinu, the human-turned-demon leader of the Saja Boys. During the final act against demon king Gwi-Ma, Rumi embraced her demonic side, and Jinu sacrificed himself to give Rumi the strength needed to beat him, allowing Huntrix to restore the Honmoon and banish the demons.
- Sainchamsageom: A thin, double-edged straight sword traditionally used for Shamanistic rituals to ward against demons.
- Teleportation: Being half-demon, Rumi is capable of teleporting large distances. It is worth noting that she, and other demons, only used it for long-distance travel.

— Mira
|
” |
The main dancer of Huntrix, Mira came from a wealthy background, but was considered the black sheep of the family due to her rebellious nature. Although worried that she would never find a true family due to her temper and blunt personality, she eventually found one in Huntrix. Styling herself as a tomboy, Rumi has shown appreciation for tattoos and is by far the most aggressive of the trio.
- Gokdo: A polearm with a large, crescent moon-shaped blade first used during the Joseon dynasty as both a ceremonial and martial weapon. Being historically used in court dances, the weapon suits Mira perfectly as she is fond of channeling dance moves into her fighting style.

— Zoey
|
” |
The rapper and maknae (youngest) of the group. As a Korean-American from Burbank, California, Zoey never felt entirely at home with either side of her heritage. This led to he developing a sense of isolation and a need to belong, turning her into something of a people pleaser. Fortunately, she found that place in Huntrix. As the maknae, Zoey is excitable, bubbly, and even a little naive.
- Shinkal: Small knives that are also used in ceremonies to ward against demons. Zoey uses them as both melee weapons and projectiles. She seems to be able to telekinetically control her knives to some extent, allowing her to make big swooping attacks by positioning them in a fan-like formation.
Azula's Team[]

After being tasked to capture her traitorous brother and uncle, Zuko and Iroh, and advised that her Royal Guard would not be suited for the task, Azula recruited her childhood friends, Ty Lee and Mai, to hunt for them. Shortly after its formation, the team encountered Team Avatar in the city of Omashu when they attempted to rescue it captured king, a powerful Earthbender known as Bumi. Although Team Avatar escaped afterward, Azula's Team decided to give chase, proving formidable foes, though once again failed to capture the Avatar Aang. The team would later find success in conquering the seemingly untakable Earth Kingdom capital of Ba Sing Se in a bloodless coup.
Azula's Team would ultimately fall apart while attempting to capture Team Avatar at the Boiling Rock prison when Mai, who was in a relationship with Zuko at the time, turned against Azula to cover their escape. Just as the princess was about to kill her for the betrayal, Ty Lee disabled her to give Mai a chance to escape, though both were captured and imprisoned. This proved to be a turning point for Azula, who would grow progressively paranoid that such a betrayal could happen again, leading to her downfall.

| “ | I'm about to celebrate becoming an only child!
— Azula to Zuko
|
” |
The daughter of Fire Lord Ozai, Azula was raised to be her father's personal soldier. She commands her squad through both fear and respect, though Mai and Ty Lee do seem to have a personal affection for her. Because of her upbringing, Azula is very manipulative and delights in cruelty, but also suffers from insecurity stemming from the sense that her mother never truly loved her, preferring the kinder and gentler Zuko.
- Firebending: A firebender, Azula is capable of creating and manipulating fire from her hands and feet. These flames can be formed into waves, streams, and projectiles. The fire created by Azula burns especially hot, being the only known firebender to create blue flames, and are capable of slicing off parts of a building. Azula could also use her firebending to create a whip made from fire, shoot explosive projectiles, and use it as a means of mobility by creating fire underneath her feet to propel herself forward like a jet.
- Lightning generation: A subset of firebending. By performing circular motions with both arms, separating yin and yang energies before letting them collide and become whole, creating lightning which can be guided (though not controlled) in a direction of the bender's choosing. She is also capable of creating weaker flashes of lightning to blind and disarm her foes and create balls of lightning.
- Physicality: Benefitting from her bending skills, Azula is a highly skilled acrobat. She could run along walls, perform spins and flips mid-air, and was so agile that even Aang could not catch her with his airbending. She is also a skilled hand-to-hand fighter, using her acrobatics to fight Aang and his allies without her bending.

| “ | I love Zuko more than I fear you.
— Mai to Azula
|
” |
The daughter of a noble family, Mai found herself bored with her cushy lifestyle. As such, she took on knife throwing as a hobby and joined Azula's team the second she was asked to. Although presenting a stoic and blunt exterior, Mai is not above emotion, having had a long-time crush on Zuko, which eventually developed into a romantic relationship, even choosing to turn against Azula to give him a chance to escape despite the fact he had broken up with her at the time.
- Stilettos: Pointed darts hidden under her sleeve and around her ankle, and are typically used when speed, maneuverability, or surprise was required, being able to throw them with a simple gesture. They have the capability to pierce wood and are sometimes used to pin her enemies to the wall or floor by their clothes, immobilizing them.
- Knives: Mai's favourite weapons, which are hidden in the many folds of her clothes. She carries a wide variety of knives suited for a variety of purposes, including streamlined long-bladed knives for speed and added lethality, single-bladed knives, double-bladed knives thrown in a fashion similar to disks, and longer, thicker knives meant to pin a immobilize a foe to the wall by their clothes. Mai's knives can pierce wood, stone, and even metal.
- Miniature Sai: A tiny, collapsible sai used when Mai is going in for the kill shot. Besides being used as a projectile, Mai can also use it as a melee weapon.
- Marksmanship: Mai is highly accurate with her knives, capable of hitting fast-moving targets and is able to switch targets on a moment's notice, allowing her to take on a group of opponents and still win. She prefers to pin her enemies to the walls or ground with her knives to disable their bending and set them up for the kill shot, but is more than capable of hitting them without pinning them. She can throw her knives with such force that they drag her targets with them, allowing her to pin them to a solid surface even if they are not right next to one.
- Agility: Although not her main attribute, Mai is nonetheless shown to be rather agile, capable of leaping great distances without effort and was able to maintain her balance while sliding off a wall.

| “ | My aura has never been pinker!
— Ty Lee
|
” |
Having six sisters who looked just like her and were even similarly named, Ty Lee took up acrobatics to set herself apart, even running away from home to join the circus. Unlike Mai, Ty Lee had to be manipulated to join Azula in her mission and occasionally questioned her brutal methods, though she obeyed her commands nonetheless, only turning on her when she was about to execute Mai. She is shown to be bubbly, social, and slightly airheaded, even flirting with Sokka even though they were supposed to be enemies at the time.
- Agility: Ty Lee is an extremely agile acrobat, even surpassing Azula. She can casually perform somersaults, cartwheels and is often seen walking around on a handstand or just her fingers. She even performed as a famous tightrope walker. Using her skill as an acrobat, Ty Lee outmaneuvered almost any opponent she came across and jump exceptionally high and far, even from a stationary position. She is also extremely limber, able to twist, bend, and contort herself into positions nearly impossible for an ordinary person to achieve. These skills combined also made her an adept free and parkour runner, allowing her to scale almost any surface or terrain quickly and squeeze through most barriers and small spaces with noticeable ease.
- Chi-blocking: Another defining skill of Ty Lee is her ability to block her enemy's chi. By striking her opponent's pressure points, Ty Lee can inhibit the flow of her target's chi, allowing her to disable a specific body part or even her opponent's entire body, depending on which pressure points she strikes. This made her especially dangerous to benders, who often possessed no close combat skills and were unable to deal with Ty Lee's swift strikes. This fighting style also allowed her to take on and defeat a group of Kyoshi Warriors (who are trained in close quarters combat) alongside Mai, though she did noticably struggle against their leader, Suki, though it should be noted she would be a cut above the rest of her fellow warriors.
X-Factors[]
Training
Although the finer details of Huntrix's training are not known, it is heavily implied that they trained together under Celine, a veteran hunter, who would have likely taught them hand-to-hand combat and how to use their weapons, besides skills related to being a K-pop star that aren't relevant to the match. Rumi, having been raised by Celine, has likely received more training than either Mira or Zoey.
All three members of Azula's Team attended the Royal Fire Academy for Girls, a military academy to turn young women into capable Fire Nation soldiers. The academy was known to encourage rivalries between fellow students and faculty, which often resulted in deaths. As part of their combat training, the girls learned the art of war and politics, underwent survival training, and studied the blueprints of weapons and buildings of all four nations. As for their individual training, Azula received training in Firebending from her royal advisors, Lo and Li, while Mai seemed to be largely self-taught, having started her training in knife throwing largely to combat boredom. It is unknown how Ty Lee learned chi-blocking, as it was an obscure martial art at the time, being either self-trained or taught by a master.
Experience
Huntrix has been on the scene for half a decade, and it shows in their first on-screen fight, during which they were more concerned with looking stylish, eating their noodles, and doing their make-up even while their plane was crashing. That said, while they fought a wide variety of demons, most of them relied on ambush tactics, brute strength, and superior numbers. And while the occasional demon is armed or able to breathe fire, there does not seem to be too much variety in their approach.
None of the Fire Nation girls seems to have any combat experience before the events of the show. This would soon change after Azula formed the team. They would clash with various benders, including the elite earthbending platoon known as Terra Team, Zuko, Iroh, and Team Avatar. They also managed to defeat and capture the highly skilled, non-bending Kyoshi Warriors. The team did not last longer than a few months; however, lasting from Spring 100 AG to the Summer of the same year, when the group would fall apart after Mai assisted Zuko in escaping from the Boiling Rock prison.
Teamwork
In practice, Rumi is the leader and tends to take the lead in fights, although their hierarchy is rather loosely defined outside of that, with Zoey and Mira treating her more as a friend rather than the leader of the group. That said, they do genuinely like eachother and clashes between the trio at this point are non-existent. They also tend to have each other's backs and prioritize each other's safety during fights and act as a coordinated unit, as seen during the bathhouse fight, where Mira kicked her polearm into the floor, allowing Rumi to then swing off it to kick a demon. It is also worth noting that they trained together under the same mentor.
Azula, Mai, and Ty Lee have been friends since their early childhood, having met at the Fire Nation Academy for Girls, and often played together in the Royal Palace. Being the daughter of the Fire Lord and the one who assembled their crew, Azula is their unquestionable leader, with Mai and Ty Lee following her out of respect, genuine affection, and fear. Through no fault of their own, however, the team was often forced to split up, with Azula pursuing a high-value target while Mai and Ty Lee were forced to deal with less pressing matters. That said, when they stick together, they're a force to be reckoned with as they managed to subdue the elite Kyoshi Warriors despite being outnumbered. But their bond is not entirely iron, as Mai and Ty Lee would both ultimately turn on her.
Brutality
Huntrix has no issue with killing demons, who, despite being inherently evil, are also sapient beings. This also includes the Saja Boys, who look identical to humans, even though Mira and Zoey have crushes on some of their members. Mira even delights at the prospect of permanently trapping all demons in the Underworld to suffer for all eternity. Whether this extends to evil humans, however, is not certain.
While Ty Lee seems to prefer to immobilize her opponents non-lethally, as her entire fighting style is based around this, Azula and Mai have no such qualms, as both have shot to kill in the past. In fact, Azula outright delights at the idea of killing her foes and crushing them under her feet.
Scenario[]
In an alternate continuity where the characters of Avatar live in the Kpop Demon Hunters universe, Azula and her team form a Japanese girl group under Ozai Entertainment, known as Hot Flames. Despite being popular in their home country, the Flames have thus far failed to break into the Korean market, where Huntrix reigns supreme. Deciding to get rid of the competition permanently, Ozai sends the girls to Korea, where they corner Huntrix backstage after their latest concert. Not one to back down from a fight, the hunters arm themselves and prepare for battle.
Notes[]
- Huntrix are taken from the final battle just before (SPOILER ALERT) Jinu sacrifices himself.
- Azula's Team is taken shortly before "The Boiling Rock, Part 2".
- Having gone back and forth on from which point I should have taken Huntrix after the battle was published, votes published on and before 22 October 2025 may not reflect the information currently present on the blog. Since this is because of my own fuck up, these votes cannot be challenged on the basis of Huntrix's teamwork regarding to how Mira and Zoey would react to Rumi's demon marks.
Voting rules[]
- The battle is over when either party is dead, knocked out, has been forced to retreat, surrendered, or is otherwise incapable of continuing to fight.
- Voting ends when I want to end it. I will give everyone a day's notice in the comments and Discord so they can reserve a vote if they want to.
- To count, votes need to be broken up into edges or be at least a paragraph long.
- A good rebuttal can knock a vote down to half a point. A counter-rebuttal can restore it to a full point. I decide whether a (counter) rebuttal passes.
