Taskmaster, real name Tony Masters, is a mercenary with the ability to copy ever move he sees due to his superhuman photographic reflexes. Because of this ability, he is often hired by both criminal gangs and law enforcement to train agents. Holding no strong alliances unless he's paid, Taskmaster often shifts between being an anti-hero and being a villain.
Tony joined SHIELD as a field agent. During a mission, Tony found an elderly scientist, shot in the chest and slowly dying. Before the scientist died he gave Tony a syringe filled with an experimental Nazi version of the Super Soldier Serum. Tony injected himself with the serum, enhancing his photographic reflexes and developing additional powers but lost memories in the process, including those of his family, wife and partner Mercedes Merced, and even his own identity. In order to help her husband regain his lost memories, Mercedes began acting as his handler.
With no memory of his past and possessing great skill in combat, Taskmaster began to use his stolen money to start a mercenary business. Training and fighting for whoever offered the right price, whether they be supervillains or law enforcement, or military.
