The TEC-9 is a firearm of questionable classification - the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives classifies it as a handgun, although it could be fairly called a submachine gun because of its compact shape and large magazine size. It is a gun very closely related with urban violence and gangs for it's compact size and high rate of fire. You see: street gangs main form of killing (other then shootouts) is drive by shootings. These are best suited with small compact 9mm SMGs and Machine Pistols. This is what made the Uzi and TEC-9 so popular with street gangs. As a result it was banned by the 1994 Federal Assault Weapons Ban. It can only shoot semi-automatic shots, but was notorious for being very easy to convert to full auto.
