Of the many poisonous gases in the world, which gas is the deadliest of all, do you think...? The answer is oxygen. But once you've figured that out, it's already too late. That is the Way of the Void.
— Ryuukou Yanagi

Ryuukou Yanagi is a villain in Baki, the second part of the Baki the Grappler anime/manga series. A violent death row escapee and a deadly martial artist, Yanagi's mastery of poison-based techniques made him known as Yanagi the Poisoner.

Yanagi studied the Way of the Void, an unusual martial art involving creating vacuums in one's palm. While imprisoned, Yanagi murdered a dozen of his fellow inmates to practice his techniques, for which he was sentenced to death. In a bizarre synchronicity, Yanagi and four other death row inmates simultaneously escaped and traveled to Tokyo. Each had the same goal: to find a worthy opponent and "taste defeat."

Yanagi confronted his rival, the elderly jujutsuka Gouki Shibukawa, but left him unharmed after proving he could kill him. The five fugitives decided that their highest hopes for defeat laid in Baki Hanma, a prodigy martial artist and the son of Yuujirou Hanma, the world's strongest man, and his associates. Both groups agreed to fight it out whenever, wherever. Yanagi ambushed Baki at his high school. Shibukawa arrived to help, but Yanagi defeated Baki and escaped.

Yanagi later fought Baki alongside a fellow fugitive, Sikorsky, and was defeated after critically poisoning Baki. Yanagi agreed to a rematch with Shibukawa. Instead, thrill-seeking martial artist Izou Motobe arrived and fought Yanagi instead. Motobe mutilated Yanagi, but Yanagi refused to admit defeat. Yuujirou arrived and finished off Yanagi. The authorities recaptured Yanagi and transferred him to a mental facility, but he murdered his guards and escaped.
