Rell, the Iron Maiden, is a playable character in the multiplayer online battle arena game League of Legends. Trained to be a ferromantic living weapon, Rell escaped her captors and began a one-woman rebellion against her homeland.
Born to a soldier and a disgraced noblewoman in the Empire of Noxus, Rell discovered her ability to magically manipulate metal in childhood. Recognizing her potential, her parents enrolled her in Roseguard Academy, an institution for magical children run by the enigmatic Black Rose organization. Unbeknownst to Rell, she was chosen by the Black Rose to become a weapon for the impending return of Mordekaiser, a dark lord from ancient times.
To hone her powers, Rell was made to engage in brutal sparring matches against her fellow students. Each victory granted Rell a tattoo and caused the disappearance of her defeated peer. On her sixteenth birthday, following a particularly fierce duel, Rell uncovered the awful truth. The students she defeated had their powers forcibly extracted to empower Rell, leaving them as mindless husks known as the Null, robbed of memory and emotion.
Horrified, Rell confronted the academy's headmistress: her own mother. Enraged by the betrayal, Rell unleashed her full power, destroying the academy and fashioning a formidable suit of impenetrable black armor from the shattered remains. She slaughtered the soldiers sent to subdue her and freed as many of the Null as she could. Now a fugitive, Rell vowed to free other victims of the Black Rose's schemes and to destroy Noxus itself.
