I'm not that smart, okay? I just do what my heart tells me to do.
— Okuyasu Nijimura

Okuyasu Nijimura grew up in an abusive household, with his father regularly taking his anger out on him and his brother Keicho. His father was a Stand user hired by DIO and implanted with a spore to keep in obedient which lead to him being turned into a deformed mutant after DIO's death.

Because of this, Okuyasu was raised by his older brother and relied on him to make decisions for him. Eventually, the pair would come to acquire a Bow and Arrow which could create Stand users and later moved to Morioh, originally owned by the stand user Enyaba the Hag. After his brother began to use the arrow in an effort to find a stand that could end the suffering of their father, Okuyasu would encounter Josuke Higashikata, who entered his house with his friend Koichi Hirose while searching for the cause of the numerous appearances of stands in Morioh. After Koichi was shot and hostilities began, Okuyasu tried to defeat Josuke in a Stand battle but was quickly outwitted and knocked unconscious.

As Josuke continued into the house to confront Keicho, Okuyasu regained consciousness and went after him only to fall victim to Keicho's own Stand, his brother having little regard for him. Mortally wounded he was saved and healed by Josuke, much to his confusion, and decided to help Josuke save Koichi from his brother to repay his kindness. After his brother was killed by Akira Otoishi, a Stand user he had created, Okuyasu became good friends with Josuke and often helped him deal with the various Stand users who inhabited Morioh, most notably the serial killer Yoshikage Kira.

Battle vs. Noriaki Kakyoin, Muhammad Avdol and Iggy alongside Josuke Higashikata and Shigechi (by Wassboss)

Light flashes in Muhammad Avdol’s face and he shields his eyes from the sun as he sits up. As his eyes adjust to the brightness he looks around in confusion. “I’m sure I was in DIO’s mansion but now I find myself in a forest” he says aloud as he stands and surveys the area. The foliage is thick, but he can see the tops of buildings peeking out over the canopy telling him he’s either in or right next to a city. A large oak tree is sat in the middle of the clearing he woke up in and resting against it is a Japanese teenager with red hair, dressed in a school uniform. “Kakyoin?!” Avdol says rushing over to his unconscious friend. He doesn’t respond initially but after a strong shake his eyes blink open. “Mr Avdol?” he says softly “You’re alive?”

Avdol frowns. “What do you mean by you’re alive”

“Polnareff said you were dead, that you’d- “Kakyoin’ s eyes bulge and he sits up suddenly, running his hands over his stomach. “This can’t be.” Avdol helps him to his feet as he continues to inspect himself.

“Is something the matter Kakyoin? Are you hurt?”

“No. That’s the strange thing though.” Avdol eyes him quizzically.

“You aren’t pleased that you’re not hurt?”

“It’s not that. The last thing I remember was fighting DIO in Cairo, I’d just figured out the secret of his Stand, but he’d punched me through the stomach with the World. Now I awaken in a forest, speaking to a friend I thought was dead”

“You thought I was dead?” Avdol inquires.

“Yes. Polnareff said you’d been in a fight with one of DIO’s minions and that you and Iggy didn’t make it.” Avdol suddenly remembers a spirit of unimaginable horror bursting towards him from the dark right before he blacked out. “I remember something attacking us, a Stand I think it must’ve been but that’s it before I woke up here.” A thought pops into his head. “Is it possible that we’re in the afterlife?” Just as Kakyoin is about to answer there is a rustling from the nearby bushes and a Boston terrier wanders out, nose planted firmly on the ground as it sniffs. It looks up at the two men and cocks its head at Avdol, almost as if it can’t quite believe he’s there. “Iggy! You’re here as well.”

“You might be right Avdol, maybe we have died, and this is where out souls have gone to. But something doesn’t seem right, I don’t feel like I’m dead.”

“Maybe this is the work of an enemy Stand then, maybe it only looked as if we died but instead something else happened to us.” Avdol points to the buildings he saw earlier. “We should head towards that city. If we are in the afterlife or somewhere else entirely then we should try and see if we can find anyone to explain where we are.”

“That’s a good plan Mr Avdol. We’ll get our answer one way or another. Are you joining us Iggy?” Iggy watches the pair passively as they walk off but even, he can’t help but be curious about the circumstances and soon trots after them.

Meanwhile in the heart of Morioh, the Invincible Trio are plotting their next big score. “Okay then here’s the plan,” Josuke explains “Shigechi you use your Harvest to take three sandwiches from St. Gentleman’s while I distract the cashier.”

“What do I do Josuke?” Okuyasu asks.

“You’ll stay outside with Shigechi in case something goes wrong and we have to run. We should be fine though, people are too busy with their own thing to look out for three missing sandwiches.”

“I don’t know Josuke, should we really be stealing from a bakery,” Shigechi pipes up “Why don’t we just buy the sandwiches ourselves.”

“Because me and Josuke are broke idiot. Unless you’re offering to pay for us.”

Shigechi’s hand snaps down on his wallet defensively. “No way, you still haven’t paid me back from the last time.”

“So, it’s settled. We go with my plan then.” Josuke checks his watch. “St Gentleman’s opens in 10 minutes, so we need to get going if we want to get there before the lunchtime rush.”

As he disinterestedly follows Avdol and Kakyoin through the city streets, Iggy can hear his stomach rumbling. They were in Japan apparently as Kakyoin had found out from one of the locals and with that mystery cleared up all he can think about is the last time he had something to eat. His nose catches a whiff of something delicious and he leaves the pair of Stand users to find out where it is coming from. The smell is coming from a group of teenagers sat on a bench, with opened food bags next to them on the ground. Iggy is especially interested in one of the bags which is sat next to a small fat kid. “Looks like an easy target” Iggy thinks to himself and casually wanders over waiting for the kid to look away before snatching the sandwich in his mouth. “Hey that’s my sandwich!” he yells out and gets up to chase after him, as his two friends laugh hysterically at his bad luck. However, Iggy is too quick for him and loses him in the crowd.

Winding up in an empty construction site Iggy drops his hard-earned lunch on the ground, tearing open the packaging to reveal the sandwich within. He’s about to tuck in when he notices a small yellow bug crawling onto the wrapping. He bats it away with his paw, but another appears to take its place, then another, then another. Soon a small swarm of the bugs are crawling all over the place and snatch up the sandwich and start to carry it away. “That’s my sandwich you stupid dog” Shigechi says, breathing heavily after the chase. Iggy growls angrily and summons the Fool, swiping away the bugs but more quickly take their place.

“It looks as if you have a Stand as well” he continues pointing at the Fool, “but it doesn’t matter because my Harvest is invincible!”

“Where’s Iggy?” Kakyoin asks. Avdol stops walking and looks around but he can’t see their canine companion anywhere in sight.

“I wouldn’t worry about him too much he probably got bored and wandered off. He’ll find us again by himself” he replies. As they continue walking, they brush shoulders with a pair of teenagers heading in the opposite direction. “I can’t believe Shigechi had his food taken by that dog” Josuke says.

“Even I’m not that stupid,” Okuyasu says “I wouldn’t want it now anyway if that dog has slobbered all over it.” He feels a slight tugging on his leg and when he looks down, he sees one of Harvet’s bugs pulling at his trouser leg. “Hey Josuke! What is this all about.” Josuke bends down to inspect the stand which seems to be pointing in one direction.

“I think it wants us to follow it,” he ponders and as he does the bug starts jumping around excitedly and rushes off in the direction it was pointing. Josuke and Okuyasu rush after it intrigued, and it leads them to a construction site. Their attention is quickly drawn to what looks like a large sand cloud from the centre of the site and they go there to find Shigechi on his knees, Harvest’s bugs forming a barrier around him. A large metal creature with feathers on it’s head is swiping viciously at the barrier. “SHIGECHI” shouts both Josuke and Okuyasu and they immediately summon their stands to help. Josuke uses his Crazy Diamond to batter the creature away with a series of rapid punches and Okuyasu swipes at it with the Hand, managing to erase several parts of the creature. It crumbles into sand suddenly, leaving the pair confused.

“Shigechi are you hurt?” Josuke asks rushing over to him.

“That stupid dog almost killed me!” Shigechi screeches angrily.

“Dog?!” Josuke thinks and as he does so Iggy wanders into view from where he was taking cover. He growls angrily at the trio and the Fool reassembles itself from the sand in the area. It launches itself at Josuke and Crazy Diamond rushes to intercept but the sand bends out of the way of the strike and wraps itself around Josuke’s arm, hurling him across the area. Okuyasu launches himself forward swiping away the air in front of him to gain momentum. Iggy uses the Fool to create a protective barrier but the Hand swipes right through it and Okuyasu drives his foot into Iggy’s face, rocking his head back. A pained yelp turns into a snarl of defiance and Iggy throws himself forward teeth bared and sinks them into Okuyasu’s leg. Shouting in pain he tries in vain to shake the Boston terrier off, but his grip is strong.

Iggy feels an immense pressure on his body and is forced to let go of the leg. Harvet’s bugs are crawling all over him, dragging him to the ground and pinning him in place. The Fool manages to swipe the majority of them away, but the distraction is enough for Josuke to rush into with a punch which launches Iggy though the air and into a nearby container. Cushioning most of the blow with his Stand the impact is still enough to leave the small dog dazed and the Invincible Trio close in, cutting off the means of escape for their final attack. Suddenly a barrier of flames fires up in front of the trio cutting them off from their opponent. Muhammed Avdol stands at the entrance to the construction site, fingers crossed directing the flames. “I think it’s time we evened this fight up a bit don’t you think Kakyoin” he says, and the teen joins him.

“Yes, Mr Avdol I think it is.” A green tentacle latches around Okuyasu and Josuke and drags them forward, leaving Shigechi to face Iggy alone once again. Crazy Diamond grabs onto a metal bar and wrenches it out of the building scaffolding, hurling it with all it’s might at Kakyoin. It doesn’t get far however as it is melted harmlessly down by Magicians Red. Hierophant Green tosses the pair high into the air and opens up the palms of it’s hands. “EMERALDO SPASHU” comes the cry from Kakyoin and a barrage of green emeralds explodes forward. Using their Stands to block the attack another shout of “CROSSFIRE HURRICANE” rings though the air and fire licks at their clothes. Set alight by the flames Okuyasu rolls on the floor desperately and Josuke looks around for a water source. Spotting a barrel filled with rainwater he uses Crazy Diamond to pick it up and drenches his friend, putting out the flames. Healing the burn wounds the pair back up cautiously as Avdol and Kakyoin advance on them.

They walk backwards into Shigechi who is desperately trying to hold off the Fool’s vicious attacks with his Harvest. “You need to send your Harvest to get some help,” Josuke whispers “Send them out to find Jotaro, Koichi, Rohan, basically any Stand user you can find.” Shigechi nods and half a dozen of the bugs break away from the main swarm and scamper off into the city. Kakyoin attempts to snag Josuke’s leg again but this time he is too quick and snatches up the tentacle with Crazy Diamond, dragging the Stand over to him. Okuyasu barrels towards Avdol to prevent him aiding his friend using the Hand to erase the flaming ankhs being flung at him. The Hand grabs Magician’s Red and tries to push it’s right hand into it’s face but the Stand is able to match it’s strength and just about keep it away. It drives a kick into the Hand’s side and twists its arm away, causing Okuyasu to grimace in pain. It channels fire into its hands and scorches Okuyasu’s arm badly and finishing the move off with a driving knee to the chest. Okuyasu crumples to the ground and Avdol turns his attention to Josuke who is using Crazy Diamond to pummel the hell out of Hierophant Green’s face.

“Okuyasu!” he shouts in anguish and stops his relentless assault on the green stand, leaving Kakyoin barely conscious. In a rage his stand slams into Magician’s Red and shoves it into a wall, giving it a few good body shots to wind the user. Satisfied they won’t be getting up for a while, he rushes over to check on his friend, who is badly burnt and unconscious, but still alive and heals him up. Kakyoin stumbles as he stands up, his nose bleeding and face badly bruised and Avdol groans as he straightens up.

“I’ve not encountered a stand with that much power since Star Platinum” the Egyptian mummers to himself.

“Hey Jotaro” Koichi says waving as he spots him coming out of his hotel. “Have you heard from Josuke today?”

Koichi laughs nervously. “Oh, okay I was just wondering. Normally we’d have met up by now to do something, but I haven’t spoken to him since yesterday.” An uncomfortable silence descends, and Koichi fidgets awkwardly and desperately tries to continue the conversation. “So where are you going?”

“What’s that on your shoulder” Jotaro says abruptly.

“My shoulder?” Koichi says confused and cranes his neck to see one of Harvest’s bugs perched there. “Oh, that’s the Stand of the kid Josuke and Okuyasu met a few weeks ago, Shigechi I think his name was.”

“Why is it here?”

“I don’t know.” The bug hops off Koichi’s shoulder and darts down the street. “We should follow it just in case it’s something important.”

Back at the construction site things are going less than well for the Invincible Trio. Shigechi is now lying prone alongside Okuyasu, having been badly wounded by the Fool after it finally breached his defences. Josuke is backed up against the wall with the three more experienced Stand users surrounding him. “It’s time to give it up now,” Avdol says sternly.

“Yeah right I’m not just going to give up against the Stand users who beat up my best friend!” Josuke snarls defiantly.

“Have it your way then. CROSSFIRE HURRICANE!” The flaming ankhs slice through the air and Josuke only barely manages to dodge out of the way as they blast a hole in the wall behind him. An emerald splash from Hierophant Green is blocked by his Stand but a couple of the projectiles breach the defence and bury themselves into his leg. He stumbles and an attack from the Fool slams him into a wall causing him to drop to his knees in pain. The trio prepare for their final attack but before they can the melted metal pole from earlier starts glowing. Reassembling itself into its previous form it shoots through the air suddenly. Taking Kakyoin’ feet out from under him and smashing straight into Iggy, sending the Boston Terrier hurtling though the air before slotting back into the scaffolding.

Mustering up all his determination and fighting past waves of pain Josuke throws himself at Avdol with a cry of “DORA! DORA! DORA! DORA! DORA!” The rapid-fire barrage of punches are much too fast for him to dodge and Magician’s Red’s defences are soon breached. The barrage is cut short however as Hierophant Green grips Crazy Diamond around the throat. It tries to shake it off but despite being relatively weak the Stand is able to maintain its grip for a surprising amount of time before being tossed aside. Avdol uses his own Stand to create a binding chain, pinning Josuke and his Stand to the floor. Josuke squirms and flounders in an attempt to break free but the oxygen depravation from the flames quickly has the desired effect and the Morioh teen is soon lying unconscious on the floor.

The flames dissipate as Avdol slumps over, the pain from the punches setting in as the adrenaline wears off and Kakyoin looks around wearily as Iggy limps over. “We’ve got to get to a hospital Mr Avdol” he says breathily. It’s at this moment a kid dressed in a green school uniform not dissimilar to Kakyoin’s rushes into the area.

“Josuke! Okuyasu! What happened!” he screams and a small green alien thing hovers above him. Despite their aching bodies the Stardust Crusaders prepare to fight again but stop dead in their tracks when a familiar face appears. “Jotaro!” Avdol says in shock. If Avdol was shocked, then the expression on Jotaro’s face is nothing short of sheer astonishment as he looks at his deceased friends.

“Kakyoin. Avdol. Iggy. You’re. Alive” he says.

“You know these people Jotaro?” Koichi asks confused.

“They were with me in Egypt. They were my friends. But they died. I know they did.” He looks around the scattered bodies and frowns. “What the hell happened here”

“We found Iggy fighting these three teens in this construction fight. I don’t know what he did to piss them off, but we had to step in and help. Do you know these people?”

“Yes. The one with the pompadour is my nephew.” Avdol and Kakyoin look sheepish.

“If we’d know that we might have gone easier on him,” Kakyoin says quietly. Josuke, Okuyasu and Shigechi are starting to come around and they sit up groggily.

“Jotaro. What’s going on here?” Josuke asks.

“It looks as if you ran into a couple of old friends of mine.” Jotaro helps the teenager to his feet.

“That stupid dog stole my sandwich!” Shigechi complains, still not over the theft and Iggy growls menacingly. “Is that what this was all about? A sandwich!” Avdol says shooting Iggy a glare.

“It doesn’t matter what it was about now,” Jotaro says “The important thing is that everybody is alive.” His gaze rests on Kakyoin, Avdol and Iggy as he says this, and he smiles.

“We have a lot of catching up to do.”

Winner: The Not-So Invincible Trio

Expert's Opinion

What this battle ended up coming down to wasn’t the Stands or their powers but the people behind said Stands. Avdol, Iggy and Kakyoin were much more experienced in using their stands in battle and this helped them out against the relatively inexperienced Invincible Trio. Furthermore they all showed better tactical ability in battle whereas Okuyasu and Shigechi were lacking in that department.

Battle vs. Ryuji Sakamoto (by BeastMan14)

The ringing school bell represented the end of another day at DFederal’s North University, with numerous students shuffling out of their classrooms and towards the school’s various exits to their respective districts. Numerous conversations blended together into a larger, difficult to understand mix, but one particularly loud voice stood out among the rest.

“Eugh, that was friggin’ boring!”

Ryuji Sakomoto yawned and stretched as he exited the classroom, where the professor, a bald man with a distinct glasses and goatee combo, attempted to remind the class that their chemistry quiz was next week, only to give up after it became clear he’d lost their attention. Ryuji, followed closely by Joker, headed down the hallway towards the doors to the greater campus. He stopped at the foot of the stairs and looked at Joker with a sheepish grin.

“Dude, I hope you took notes because I was totally gonna pass out by the end of that. What a drag.”

Joker sighed and replied, “Do you like any of the classes here?”

Continuing to walk, Ryuji paused, scratching the back of his head as he wracked his brain, then shrugged, mumbling, “I dunno, gym’s pretty cool sometimes.”

At that, there was ruffling in Joker’s bag, and a small black and white cat with distinct blue eyes poked his head out, smirking as it asked, “Is that because of your crush on Coach Li?”

Stopping dead in his tracks, Ryuji’s eyes widened as his cheek turned a shade of red and he raised a fist at Morgana, who stuck his tongue out in response.

Morgana’s indignant response that he was not, in fact, a cat was muffled as Joker firmly put his hand over the cat’s face and shoved him back into the bag. Ryuji laughed, then stopped to sheepishly rub his stomach as it loudly growled. He chuckled, then said, “Damn, guess havin’ to sit through that class worked up an appetite. I might swing by LaBeau’s and see if Yusuke’s got anything cookin’. You in?”

Joker shook his head.

“Sorry, I’m gonna wait for Makoto to get out of Student Council.”

Ryuji rolled his eyes and scoffed.

“Lame, but whatever. I’ll see you back at our place.”

With that, the two went their separate ways, with Joker heading towards one of the school buildings while Ryuji headed towards the gates, giving Joker a final peace sign that quickly turned into a middle finger as Morgana poked back out of the bag to look at him.

“Oi, Josuke, what’d you get on number three? I’m totally stumped, bro.”

Sitting at the foot of Josuke’s bed, Okuyasu held up his homework for Josuke to look over, and Josuke very politely took the paper and squinted at his friend’s various doodles, before laughing at his answer.

“How did you get 1866? The answers are all single digits, dude.”

Okuyasu threw his hands up in annoyance and snapped, “We’ve been at this for, like, three hours. It’s boring and I’m totally starving. Can we do anything else?”

Josuke gave a wary glance to the clock hanging over his desk to see that they had been studying for a while, then said, “Yeah, screw it,” before slamming his book shut and tossing it aside.

“Let’s grab something at LaBeau’s, then try this stuff again.”

Okuyasu beamed and excitedly followed Josuke as they left his room, with Josuke stopping to yell down the hall, “Ey, old man, we’re gonna head out and get a bite! We’ll be back in a bit.”

From Josuke’s father’s office, a voice replied, “Before you go, could you lend me a hand, Josuke? These damned essays are taking longer to grade than I expected, and I could use another set of eyes! You know how mine get after too much reading.”

Josuke groaned, but nodded and trudged towards the office, turning back to his friend with a reluctant expression and saying, “Just save me something good. Like one of those chicken sandwiches they sell or something. I’ll catch up.”

Okuyasu gave Josuke a determined nod, then headed down the stairs.

The bell above the door of LaBeau’s Diner gave a friendly ring as Ryuji stepped aside, sighing in annoyance at the sizable line by the cash register. It was the downside of making such good food so close to a school: the place was always packed when school closed. Pushing through the small crowd, Ryuji walked up to the counter and attempted to get the attention of the owner, who was more invested in showing an impressed woman with short black hair and glasses a card trick.

“Hey, excuse me dude, looking for one of the cooks here.”

No response as the card melts in a burst of purple flame, leaving it in the shape of a heart.

“Hello? Sitting right here, man.”

The owner hands her the makeshift heart and she gives him a wry smile, which quickly vanishes and changes to a mixture of annoyance and concern as Ryuji pounds his fist on the bar.

“Hey, asshole! Quit ignorin’ me when I’m trying to ask you a question.”

The owner rolled his eyes and chuckles, gesturing for the woman to wait one moment, then sidled up to Ryuji and looked the teen over.

“Fraid I’m gone have to ask ya to abstain from such nasty language in here, mon ami.”

Ryuji massaged his brow in annoyance.

“Look, I’m just trying to find my friend. Yusuke. Blue hair? Tall? Kind of weird in a cool way?”

At the mention of his name, Yusuke peeked through the kitchen window and gave Ryuji a friendly wave before stepping out to greet him, taking a moment to wipe his hands clean. The issue resolved, Gambit returned to his flirting, only to find the woman gone. He smirked. She’d come back. They always do. Yusuke leaned against the bar and asked, “Ah, Ryuji, what brings you to visit my workplace? I suppose you’d like to try my latest masterpiece?”

Ryuji grinned and nodded excitedly.

“Hell yeah, dude. I don’t know how you do it, but no one can whip up a sandwich like that.”

Yusuke nodded.

“Yes, I am very grateful to LaBeau-san for allowing me to experiment and hone my craft behind the grill. It has truly broadened my perspective. Now, my art contains the perspective, no, the true sweat and tears of a working man!”

On the last point, Yusuke dramatically wiped his hand across his brow, and Ryuji stared in polite confusion.

“…yeah, anyway, can you whip one up for me? Gonna take it to go so I can eat back at our place.”

Yusuke frowned, stroking his chin with a troubled expression, and reluctantly explained, “Unfortunately, we are fairly busy. If I were to prepare a fresh meal, you would likely be waiting for a half an hour at the earliest. Although-“ He gestured towards a glass box containing a small set of rotating plates that sat under a heat lamp, helpfully labelled “The Snatch ‘n Grab”, “-there is one remaining, though I must admit that eating it after it’s been sitting there does not reflect my work at it’s strongest.”

Ryuji’s stomach grumbled again and he gave an apologetic shrug to Yusuke.

“Yeah, that’s sad and all, but I’m starving. See you after work, man.”

He stepped towards the Snatch ‘n Grab, mouth watering in anticipation, and opened the door, reaching excitedly for the tin-foil wrapped sandwich, only to cry out in surprise as the sandwich flew off the plate and directly over his shoulder and into the hand of another teenager, this one with short hair and a distinct X across his front.

Okuyasu grinned as he stepped towards the register to make his order. Thanks to the Hand, he’d been able to secure Josuke’s meal, but he just needed to figure out his. Maybe he’d get the gumbo? Although, he was feeling in the mood for a burger with cheese fries now that he was thinking about it? His thoughts of food were interrupted by a scowling Ryuji stepping in front of him and firmly placing a hand on his shoulder.

“Hey asshole, that was mine!”

Annoyed, Okuyasu slapped Ryuji’s hand away and frowned.

“Yeah, well I saw it first! You snooze, you lose, bro.”

Ryuji’s nostrils flared and he jabbed a finger into Okuyasu’s chest, earning a scowl from the teenager.

“You used your weird-ass powers to take it, so save that “snoozed and losed” bullshit.”

Gambit whistled, getting both of their attentions, and raised a card, letting it glow as a clear threat, before saying, “Now, if you boys are gone cause trouble, I’d advise it takin’ outside. Make sense?”

Ryuji grinned and answered, “Oh, trust me, if he wants to go, he can meet me outs-“

His boast was cut short by Okuyasu summoning the Hand and landing a blow to Ryuji’s jaw, sending him flying through the window of the diner and tumbling into the street. Kicking up the food on the table in front of him, Okuyasu quickly scaled it and jumped through the newly made hole. Concerned, Yusuke quickly untied his apron and went to leave, only for Gambit to stop him and shake his head with a reassuring, “You’re still on the clock, mon ami. Gone have to let your friend handle himself on dis one, no?”

As Ryuji groaned and pulled himself up, Okuyasu cracked his knuckles and let the Hand float above him.

“Trust me, you don’t wanna mess with the Hand.”

Wiping blood from his mouth, Ryuji grinned and boasted,” Oh, you think that’s tough? Let me show you some real shit, asshole,” before pressing his finger to bridge of his nose and yelling, “WILLIAM!”

In a burst of light, Ryuji’s normal school clothes vanished, replaced with an all-black leather outfit topped off with a red bandana around his neck and a black skull mask, while a large skeletal figure standing atop some form of boat towered over him. Okuyasu took a step back, momentarily surprised, then his eyes narrowed in determination and he sent the Hand forward. The Stand quickly threw a punch which William rushed to block, then counter with it’s own blow, sending Okuyasu stumbling back.

Using his opponent’s momentary weakness, Ryuji casts Ziodyne, with William firing a blast of lighting that Okuyasu scrambled to avoid, summoning the Hand to sever one of the bolts clean in half. Ryuji stared, confused as the bolts travelled in two separate directions.

“For real?!? How the hell do you erase lightning?”

Okuyasu smirked and replied, “That’s my Stand’s power. Anything my right hand touches gets erased like it was never there! Still think you got a chance against me?”

With that, the Hand lunged forward, throwing a series of punches that Ryuji struggled to dodge, with leaving him gasping in pain as one blow collided with his gut. Dropping to the ground, Ryuji casts God Hand, and a giant hand rockets towards Okuyasu, who quickly resummons the Hand to block it. The force of the impact sends Okuyasu skidding down the alley, and he takes a moment to catch his breath as Ryuji stands back up. The two advanced towards each other, and their respective fighting spirits clash once more, with the Hand blocking a strike from William as the two stood locked in place.

Ryuji unsummons William and charges forward, ducking under the Hand as he draws Mjolnir and swings it forcefully, smashing it into Okuyasu’s side and causing him to spit blood in pain. The Hand moves quickly, putting itself between Ryuji and it’s wielder, and Ryuji tries and fails to swipe at it, the hammer passing uselessly through the Stand before it counters with it’s right hand, cutting the weapon clean in two. As the top of the hammer clatters to the ground, Ryuji can only stammer out a confused, “For re-“ before a fierce uppercut from the Hand collides with his chin and knocks him into the air. The Hand raises it’s right hand and erases the air around Ryuji, pulling him facefirst into it’s fist, the blow knocking him into a set of trashcans.

Ryuji stands on shaky legs as Okuyasu confidently watches him.

“People can’t hurt Stands, dude. C’mon, even I know that.”

Tightening his grip on Mjolnir and ignoring the pain in his side, Ryuji grits his teeth and replies, “Well, in that case, WHOOP EM PERSONA!”

William aims it’s arm cannon and fires, letting loose another Ziodyne that surrounds Okuyasu and coats him in electric bursts. Okuyasu tries to cry out, but he realizes he’s frozen in place. Following up, William slams into Okuyasu, smashing him into the wall of the alley, then uppercuts him into the air. As Okuyasu tumbles to the ground, Ryuji grabs the top half of Mjolnir, pointing it with an exaggerated flourish, and then pulls back and swings with all his strength, the hammer colliding with Okuyusu’s back and shooting him down the alley, where he hits a wall and slumps to the ground.

Panting, Ryuji lets the hammer fall to the ground once he realizes his foe isn’t getting up, then walks cautiously towards the downed Okuyasu before digging through his jacket until he pulls out his prize: a slightly smashed chicken sandwich, still wrapped in slightly crackling tin foil. Pulling it open, he breathes a sigh of relief as he sees the damage isn’t too severe, then tucks the re-wrapped sandwich into his coat pocket. His grin of triumph changes to a frown as he glances back at the broken window of the diner, through which several patrons stared at him in both shock and concern, and he awkwardly rubbed the back of his head as his Thieves outfit reverted to his original clothes.

“Hey, what are you all staring at? I’m gonna pay for it! The sandwich, I mean. The window was his fault. Honest.”

Inside the diner, one of the patrons, a young man in an olive-green suit and red teashades, amused by the proceedings, writes down the events in his notebook and underlines the words “Have Ramona update statuses”. That had certainly made for an entertaining watch on his lunchbreak, so why not throw a reward the boy’s way?

Josuke massaged the back of his neck as he walked towards the diner. His dad’s work had taken almost an hour, but he’d finally managed to help finish it. He just hoped he hadn’t kept Okuyasu waiting too long with their food. His concerns were replaced as he turned the corner to see a dazed Okuyasu sitting on the steps of the diner, holding a bag of ice over his eye. Upon seeing Josuke, he waved, and his friend ran to his side.

“Okuyasu! What the hell happened, man?”

“Some dude took our lunch. Don’t worry though, I kicked his ass.”

Quickly summoning Crazy Diamond, Josuke repairs Okuyasu’s injuries, then helps him to his feet with a vengeful frown.

“Well, where is this guy? Let’s show him why they don’t mess with the unstoppable duo!”

Okuyasu waves him off and replies, “Okay, so I sort of lost him, BUT a bunch of people saw me totally kick his ass before that and they bought us this!”

He excitedly holds up a large brown bag, and Josuke stares at him in bafflement.

“Wait, they bought you lunch?”

“Hell yeah. Now, come on, I ain’t gonna be able to eat this by myself.”

Okuyasu started the walk back to the Joestar estate, and Josuke, both amused and deeply confused by the turn of events, followed him. After all, a free lunch was a free lunch, no matter how one acquired it.

“So, what you’re saying is you lost Mjolnir in a fight over a chicken sandwich?”

At Joker’s query, Ryuji nodded, while Makoto and Morgana both sighed.

“Yeah, there was this dude, and he had something called a Stand that was like a Persona but also not like a Persona, and he tried to steal my sandwich, so then when I tried to get it back, he hit me, and THEN-“

Joker held up a hand, silencing him, and asked, “You want me to try and get it back?”

Ryuji nodded, looking at the ground and awkwardly kicking a pebble out of embarrassment, while Makoto massaged her temples and Morgana snickered. Joker paused to think about it, wondering if his employer would be able to make that happen. Given what he’d seen him do in the past, he was pretty confident he could do it for him.

“Yeah, I’ll try.”

Ryuji smiled and pulled Joker in for an enthusiastic hug, which he eventually reciprocated, then exclaimed, “Nice! I promise I won’t lose this one, dude!”

As the quartet ascended the stairs to their apartment, Joker stopped by the Thieves collective mailbox. Very rarely did they receive any sort of notice, but it was nice to make a habit of checking, nonetheless. His brow furrowed as he realized the sole piece of mail was for, of all people, Ryuji, and he held it out to him. After a moment’s hesitation, Ryuji took the envelope, then tore it open to find a small slip of paper that simply read, “For an enjoyable spectacle. -B”

Ryuji’s confusion turned into a massive grin as he realized the other content of the envelope: a small key with an address attached to it. Excitedly, he held the key out and yelled, “Looks like ya boi is getting his own pad! Man, chicks are so gonna dig this!”

Expert’s Opinion

Okuyasu’s Stand mastery made him a formidable foe for Ryuji, but he was ultimately hampered by the lack of versatile options his Stand could provide. William could match the Hand in terms of power, and it’s electric and physical attacks meant that Ryuji had plenty of surprises in store, while his weapons enabled him to fight even without his Persona’s assistance. Everyone’s favorite PHANTOM THIEF just had the experience and skillset to win in this back-alley scrap.
