Nitara is a character in the Mortal Kombat fighting game series. After successfully separating her native realm of Vaeternus from Outworld after it had been conquered by Shao Kahn, Nitara dutifully acted as its defender, protecting her fellow vampires from harm.
Nitara was a native of Vaeternus, a realm that was conquered by Shao Kahn and merged with his own realm of Outworld. Longing to free her people Shao Kahn's control, Nitara sought a Portal Sphere, an artifact that could undo the merging if destroyed. However, the Sphere was submerged beneath lava, making it inaccessible to her.
Fortunately for her, she found soon spotted the cyborg Cyrax, who was investigating Outworld on behalf of the Outer World Investigation Agency, whose cybernetic enhancement would allow him to survive the lava and reach the Portal Sphere. Realizing that he would not accept the request without being offered something in return, Nitara manipulated the lizardman Reptile into fighting the cyborg and destroying teleportation device. Appearing before Cyrax, Nitara offered the cyborg to send him back to Earthrealm if he retrieved the Portal Sphere for her, to which he agreed. Holding up her end of the bargain, she send him home and destroyed the Portal Spehere, separating Vaeternus from Outworld.
Years later, having dedicated herself to ensuring the safety and stability of her newly freed realm, Nitara learned that her fellow vampires were being massacred by a warrior wielding Datusha, a weapon known to slay vampires, which could only be destroyed by with the power of Blaze, a powerful elemental. Nitara tracked down the perpetrator, a demon named Ashrah, who was manipulated by Datusha into believing that slaying vampires would purify her soul. Nitara defeated her and fled to Ashrah, hoping to lure Ashrah there and obtain the power needed to destroy Datusha.
During the Battle of Armageddon, Nitara sided with the Forces of Darkness and was one of the many warriors to die in battle.
