Human hope is a desire too! You better not underestimate it! The Phantom Thieves will yield to no one, no matter who they are! Even if only one of us remains, we'll get back up and fight to the very end. And we'll definitely... definitely... Take the world!
— Morgana to Yaldabaoth

Morgana, nicknamed Mona under the Phantom Thieves, was originally a creature of indiscernible origin discovered by Joker and Ryuji Sakamoto once they accidentally entered the Metaverse, a world consisting of and defined by human thoughts and desires. In exchange for being released from a prison cell located in Kamoshida's palace, Morgana became a mentor figure for the two school kids, introducing them to the world of Personas and Palaces, and eventually became a founding member of the Phantom Thieves of Hearts. Working to change the hearts of corrupt individuals, Morgana would be supportive and strong-headed at times, although this disguised an underlying self-doubt.

He would become instrumental in stealing the hearts of Madarame, Kaneshiro, Futaba, and Okumura, with the the capture of their leader, Joker, on an attempted raid of Nijima's palace, leading to the discovery of Shido's involvement in the occurrences of mental shutdowns after Joker escaped imprisonment. After changing Shido's heart and discovering the hidden secrets of Mementos, the question of Morgana's origins became more and more prevalent. It was eventually revealed that he was a construct created by Yaldabaoth in order to set into motion the events of game and bring about the metaphysical end of the world. After the god's defeat, however, Morgana's spirit was still intact, and remained an active member of the Thieves in the real world and out.
