Accept this vow, then: If I must drink blood, let it be the blood of the corrupt -- of those who deserve to die. The blood of the guilty.
— Morbius

Dr. Michael Morbius is a character that appears in comic books published by Marvel Comics. Suffering from a rare blood disease, Morbius injected himself with bat DNA in the hopes of curing it. Instead, it turned him into a pseudo-vampire with an insatiable bloodlust. Initially an enemy of the superheroes such as Spider-Man and Blade, Morbius would become their ally after regaining some control of himself.

Born in Greece, Morbius experienced a lonely childhood due to his blood disease and abandonment by his father. Nonetheless, he managed to befriend the siblings Emil and Liza Nikos. Growing up, Morbius and Emil became brilliant scientists, even winning a Nobel Prize for their work in biochemistry. Tragedy struck when the pair attempted to cure Morbius' disease with vampire bat DNA, turning him into a pseudo-vampire. Overcome with bloodlust, Morbius killed Emil by draining his blood.

Knowing the law would catch up to him if he stayed in Greece, Morbius escaped to America by boat, only to succumb to his bloodlust again and kill everyone onboard, drawing the attention of Spider-Man. Morbius eventually came to subdue his bloodlust and was able to use his vampire abilities and scientific mind to aid others, and often fought alongside other monstrous heroes. He was never truly able to control his bloodlust, however, and occasionally needed to be subdued by other heroes.
