Miranda Lawson was a genetically engineered human and former Cerberus operative who was one of Commander Shepard's close allies.
Miranda was created by her 'father' Henry Lawson as part of his dream to establish a lasting legacy. Though she was not the first he created, she was the only one that he kept. Henry restricted Miranda's social life and always put impossible expectations upon her. When she was a teenager, Henry created a second child called Oriana. Realizing that her father was looking to replace her and would mistreat Oriana just as badly as he did her, Miranda took the infant Oriana and joined Cerberus, making sure that Oriana would be safely hidden away and adopted by a loving family.
As the years went by Mirnada proved herself to be an effective operative to Cerberus and was eventually put in charge of the Lazarus Project, an extremely ambitious project meant to resurrect Commander Shepard after they were killed in a Collector attack so that humanity had someone to defend them from the mysterious aliens. Once Shepard was resurrected, Miranda became part of their team. During this time, Miranda gained word that Henry got the location of Oriana and intended to take her back. If made sure that Oriana was kept out of Henry's hands, Miranda's loyalty to Shepard is secured.
If she survives the suicide mission on the Collector base Miranda leaves Cerberus as their human supremacy views become too extreme, and is forced to run once more as Cerberus sends agents to kill her. If properly informed and supported by, as well as loyal to Shepard, Miranda survives these encounters and manages to once again protect Oriana from Henry. If Shepard dies activating the Crucible, Miranda aids the galaxy in rebuilding after the Reaper War. If not, she presumably perishes while fighting the Reapers.

While Han and Chewie brought in both Cunning and Strength what brought their downfall was Miranda and Jacob's Biotics and Kinetic Barrier Armor that helped them seal the victory.
