I never tire of sitting in dead men's thrones.
— Minthara

One of the daughters born into House Baenre of Menzoberranzan, Minthara Baenre survived her first assassination attempt when her mother protected her from an assassin's dagger. Befitting the dangerous matriarchal society of drow culture, Minthara proved her own worth as a drow in her adulthood when her mother attempted to assassinate her as well, with Minthara winning the confrontation. When Absolute cultists were killed in Menzoberranzan for preaching their new religion, Minthara and a band of her warriors went to destroy the audacious cult at Moonrise Towers. She and her band were greeted by the general Ketheric Thorn, who greeted Minthara as a guest of honor. Taking the bait, Minthara led her men into a trap, where Orin the Red kill all of them but her, and forcing her to join the Absolute Cult via a magically altered mindflayer tadpole.

As a newly indoctrinated leader for the Absolute, Minthara led a band of goblins into the Western Heartlands to obtain a mindflayer artifact thought to be in the area. She believed that the artifact was in the Emerald Grove, a druid grove hosting several tiefling refugees from Elturel. Despite her best efforts, Minthara fails to find the artifact and is forced to return to Moonrise Towers empty-handed if she survives the campaign, where Ketheric admonishes her for her failures and orders Minthara to be turned into a mindless thrall. If she is rescued, she joins a party of adventurers working to stop the Absolute, and achieves her vengeance against Orin in Baldur's Gate. If still alive at the end of the conflict with the Absolute, Minthara returns to the Underdark to wage a war against Lolth and Menzoberranzan.
