Mario is the titular protagonist of the Super Mario cartoon and is based on the video game character of the same name. He is an Italian-American plumber from Brooklyn, New York and protector of the Mushroom Kingdom alongside his twin brother Luigi.
Mario and Luigi ran Mario Bros. Plumbing together in Brooklyn, and would often go on various misadventures. While working on a bathtub drain, the brothers were transported to the magical Mushroom Kingdom, and befriended Princess Toadstool and her servant Toad. While they are trying to return to their own world, Mario and Luigi are often called upon to protect the Mushroom Kingdom and Princess Toadstool from King Koopa, who desires to conquer the kingdom from within.
Despite his short and stubby stature, Mario posses super human physicality. He often uses various plumping equipment and other household tools in combat, with his plunger being his favourite. Lastly, Mario can gain various powers by absorbing power ups, including the ability to throw fireballs with a fire flower or become Super Mario with a super star.
