Mai Shiranui is a playable character in the fighting video game series Fatal Fury and The King of Fighters. The heir to her family's style of ninjutsu, Mai pursuit of martial mastery comes second to her obsession with her boyfriend, Andy Bogard.
From birth, Mai was destined to carry on the Shiranui style of ninjutsu. From childhood, she trained with her grandfather, Hanzo. In her teens, Mai met Andy Bogard, an American who had come to Japan to train under Hanzo. Mai dismissed Andy as dull and single-mindedly fixated on training. However, her feelings changed when Andy surprised her with a gift on her birthday. She suddenly found herself falling madly in love with him.
Andy and his brother, Terry, sought to avenge their father’s murder by the crimelord Geese Howard. To confront Geese, the brothers entered a fighting tournament called The King of Fighters, which Geese hosted. Mai entered as well, partially to test her skills, but mostly to stay close to Andy. After Geese's defeat, the revamped tournament required participants to form three-person teams, and Mai hoped to join Andy’s team.
However, Andy consistently chose to team up with his brother and his close friend, Joe Higashi. Instead, Mai formed her own team, Team Women Fighters, and sought out other women with a love of martial arts. Throughout the annual tournaments, her most frequent teammates were King and Yuri Sakazaki. After several years, Mai's dogged pursuit of Andy paid off. Although initially reluctant, Andy finally returned her affections.
Battle vs. Kitana (Alternate Timeline) (by MrPacheco101)[]
No battle written.
Expert's Opinion[]
Kitana is immensely more experience and better trained than Mai. However, Kitana's moveset is much more limited in comparison to Mai's, being mostly focused on anti-air and close-range attacks. Furthermore, Mai's pyrokinesis makes for a more directly lethal magical ability than Kitana's aerokinesis. Mai's overall greater versatility and power would give her the win over the more seasoned Kitana.
