— Jake Hoyt to Alonzo Harris

Officer Jake Hoyt is the protagonist of the film Training Day. When he was up for a promotion, Jake spend a day with Detective Alonzo Harris as part of his evaluation, but gradually found himself pulled into Alonzo's schemes.

At the start of his evaluation, Jake caught a pair of college kids who were buying marijuana. Confiscating their drugs, Alonzo put them in a pipe and forced Jake to smoke it before revealing it was laced with PCP. Alonzo would once again prove himself crooked as he merely watched while a girl was getting assaulted, forcing Jake to intervene.

Using the fact that the Los Angles Police Department subjects its officers to routine drug inspections, Alonzo forced Jake to go along with his corrupt dealings as he collected the money he needed to pay off his debt to the Russian mafia. He would eventually leave Jake with a Sureño gangster named "Smiley" to be executed. As luck would have it, the girl that Jake save earlier that day turned out to be Smiley's cousin. Thankful for this, Smiley let Jake go, who hurried after Alonzo.

A gunfight and chase ensued, ending with Jake subduing Alonzo and taking his money. As Jake took the money to submit as evidence, Alonzo was killed by the Russians.
