Flame on!
— Human Torch

The Human Torch, real name Jonathan "Johnny" Storm, is a superhero featured in comic books published by Marvel Comics. The Human Torch is a founding member of the Fantastic Four and the younger brother of Sue Storm, better known as the Invisible Woman.

When he was but a teenager, Johnny embarked on a secret flight on the Marvel-1, the first ship capable of interstellar travel, along with Sue, her boyfriend Reed Richards, and pilot Ben Grimm. During their voyage, the crew passed through a storm of cosmic rays and were forced to crashland back to Earth. All four members of the Marvel-1 were transformed by the rays, with Johnny gaining the ability to envelop his body in fire. Deciding to use their newfound powers for the good of humanity, the crew decided to form the Fantastic Four, with Johnny dubbing himself the Human Torch in honour of the World War 2 era hero of the same name.

Although a part of the Fantastic Four, Johnny would occasionally go on solo adventures, team up with Sue, Ben, now going by "The Thing", or heroes from outside the Fantastic Four. Ironicall, the Human Torch would develop a friendship with his heroic elemental opposite and X-Man, Bobby Drake, better known as Iceman.

Originally the Human Torch could only envelop his body in fire. Later this ability developed allowing him to turn his entire body into heated plasma, the heat of which he could control at will. In this form, he is intangible, capable of flying, manipulating the heat around him, and shooting heated plasma from his hands.
