It's come to my attention that you don't know who I am. I am Hela. Odin's firstborn. Commander of the legions of Asgard. The rightful heir to the throne and the Goddess of Death.
— Hela

Hela is the firstborn child of Odin, sister to Thor, and goddess of death. Alongside Odin she waged war on other realms, conquering and slaughtering their inhabitants. Eventually, however, Odin had a change of heart and took a more peaceful stance. When Hela objected, Odin imprisoned her with a spell that would only wear off after he had died.

After Odin had his memories wiped and was sent to Midgard by Loki he began to near the end of his lifespan. When he was located by Thor and subsequently passed away, Hela appeared out of a portal, before engaging the thunder god. She easily defeated him, shattering his hammer and sending him spiraling out of the bifrost, teleported to an alien planet. She would proceed to singlehandedly lay siege to and defeat the armies of Asgard.

However, Thor would "awaken" his inner powers and return to Asgard to combat Hela alongside Valkyrie, Hulk, and a reformed Loki. While even the group together could hardly touch her due to her growing strength from Asgard, they eventually realized the only way to defeat her: to unleash Ragnarok. Reviving Surtur with the first flame, Asgard was utterly obliterated, along with Hela, as the remaining Asgardians escaped on a ship.

Battle vs. Baldur (God of War) (by Monkey Doctor 33)[]

Expert's Opinion[]

This match is relatively close in comparison as Baldur's strength and invincibility put Hela's versatility into the test. Both these Norse Gods are capable of great strength feats such as knocking out a serpent the size of an entire world and destroying a hammer of mass destruction. But what gave Hela the victory here is what was mentioned earlier: versatility. Baldur's durability and healing factor made him a hard enemy to put down. But thanks to Hela's arguably greater durability and power to generate basically infinite projectiles she could outmatch Baldur's melee-focused combat style and attain victory. Quite certainly, Baldur's speed also made it difficult for Hela but in the end the Goddess of Death had more options in defeating the God of Light.
