General Zod is a Kryptonian general from Krypton, and one of Superman's deadliest enemies. The son of scientists, Zod became a distinguished soldier in the Kryptonian military. Suspicious of the Kryptonian's former enermies and neighbors the Char, Zod attempted to stage a false flag operation to restart the war between the two species. Zod's plan was thwarted by Jor-El, the father of Superman, and he was punished for treason by Kryptonian authorities. Zod and his followers were exiled to the Phantom Zone, where they discovered the creature Doomsday and the Warworld.
Zod eventually escaped from the Phantom Zone and arrived on Earth. He encountered the Justice League and defeated several of the members until the arrival of Superman and Wonder Woman. Zod manipulated Superman into giving him access to the Phantom Zone, allowing him to free the Warworld and begin a new campaign of intergalactic conquest. His initial plan was thwarted by Superman, although at a great physical cost. Zod has since fought against several heroes in his desire to conquer, from the Green Lantern Corps to the Suicide Squad.
