Ermes Costello is the deuteragonist of Stone Ocean, the sixth part of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. An inmate in a prison filled with supernatural powers, Ermes deliberately incarcerated herself to avenge her sister's murder.
Ermes grew up in a Floridian slum, where her family owned a restaurant. She was distant from her family, preferring focusing on a sports scholarship to helping out at the restaurant. When Ermes was a young adult, her sister, Gloria, witnessed a murder committed by Sports Maxx, a mafioso. Maxx murdered Gloria to cover up the crime. Maxx was convicted only of extortion and sentenced to five years in Green Dolphin Street Prison. Determined to get revenge, Ermes deliberately got herself arrested and imprisoned.
In prison, Ermes befriended Jolyne Cujoh. She also discovered she could wield a Stand, a manifestation of her fighting spirit, which defended her against a self-destructive stalker. Ermes's friendship with Jolyne led her to join the conflict between Jolyne's father, Jotaro Kujo, and Enrico Pucci, a disciple of Jotaro's old enemy, DIO. Ermes eventually faced Sports Maxx and killed him after an intense battle, avenging Gloria.
Jolyne broke out of prison with her allies to stop Pucci's plan to reset the universe. The group fought hard against Pucci and his minions, but Jolyne and most of her allies, including Ermes, were killed. Pucci was killed by Emporio Alniño, the lone survivor. The universe was reset, but not as drastically as Pucci hoped. The group's alternate counterparts lived in peace in the new universe.
