I guess we're both outcasts now. Maybe in all this, that's not such a bad thing to have in common
— Echo

Maya Visari is the biological daughter of Chancellor Hera Visari and the granddaughter of the late Scolar Visari, the founder of the Helghan Empire. Her father and grandmother were both likely Vektan, making her quarter-Helghast and a pariah to her Helghan Supremacist mother. She later took the name Echo, and entered the Helghan military's intelligence branch at the age of 16. Echo was tasked with infiltrating anti-government groups, and was considered highly dangerous by Vekta's intelligence agency.

In 2390, Echo was captured by the VSA, only to be released in a prisoner exchange with Lucas Kellan. She runs into him several times during her missions, and the two develop a respect for the other's skills. The two team up after Kellan is captured again, seeking to de-escalate the brewing war instead of starting it outright. The pair infiltrate the broken, toxic world of Helghan in pursuit of Jorhan Stahl, who rebuilt the Helghan fleet and prepared a biological weapon to wipe out all with even a trace of Vektan blood. They were separated in the ensuing firefight, and she later learned that Kellan was killed by his boss, Sinclair, for treason. She uses Kellan's name to infiltrate a venue where Sinclair is giving a speech, and kills him both to prevent him from starting a war and in revenge for Kellan.
