Ciel, born as Elesia, is a major character in the visual novel Tsukihime and its various sequels and spinoffs. An agent of the Catholic Church, Ciel hunts demons while seeking to destroy the vampire that once possessed her body and inadvertently cursed her with immortality.
Born to an ordinary family in France, Elesia possessed an unusually high aptitude for magic, which made her a target for Michael Roa Valdamjong, a reincarnating vampire who chose her as his next host. As a teenager, Elesia's body was taken over by Roa's will and she slaughtered her village. She was killed by Arcueid Brunestud, Roa's enemy, and Roa's soul left her. However, Ciel survived due to her unique magical nature. Her body was recovered by the Catholic Church and taken to the Vatican, where she revived and gained immortality from the universe forcing her to live as long as Roa did to prevent a paradox.
When the Church realized they could not kill Ciel, they instead inducted her into the Burial Agency, an organization that hunts vampires. In pursuit of Roa's latest incarnation, Ciel was dispatched to Japan. Ingratiating herself into a local high school, Ciel befriended Shiki Tohno, Roa's next target for possession. With the help of Shiki's unique power to see the death of all things, Ciel ultimately destroyed Roa and freed herself of immortality. Depending on Shiki's choices, she potentially enters a relationship with him as well.
