When expelling a blast of super hot fire, the red flame at the tip of its tail burns more intensely.
— Pokedex entry

Charizard, known in Japan as Lizardon (リザードン, Rizādon), is a Fire/Flying-type Pokémon in the Pokémon franchise that first appeared in Pokémon Red and Blue. It evolves from Charmeleon and is the final evolution of Charmander. It is native to the Kanto Region.

Charizard's most distinguishing feature is its tail, which has a bright fire at its tip that burns brightly when Charizard is breathes fire and glows a whitish-blue colour when angered. A wild and prideful Pokémon, Charizard often looks for strong foes to fight, but refuses to attack those it considers weak. As a Fire-type, Charizard is capable of breathing fire hot enough to melt boulders and glaciers within seconds. This fire has the potential to grow even hotter as Charizard gains more experience in battle. Its wings are capable of carrying it to an altitude of 1,400 m (4,600 ft).

Charizard is one of the two Pokémon, next to Mewtwo, that have two different Mega Evolutions. When exposed to Charizardite X, Charizard becomes a a Fire/Dragon-type and gains an overwhelming power that fills its entire body, causing it to turn black and create intense blue flames. Should it be exposed to Charizardite Y, Charizard retains its Fire/Flying-typing and gains speed and manoeuvrability that is greater than a jet fighter. Charizard can also be Gigantamaxed, causing it grow gigantic and its wings turn to fire. Gigamax Charizard has a giant flame burning inside its body that is hotter than 2,000 °C (3,600 °F), which climbs even higher when it roars. Gigamax Charizard is the only Pokémon capable of using the G-Max Move G-Max Wildfire.

Expert's Opinion[]

  • Fourth Place: Blaziken - Blaziken may have had some of the most powerful moves in its Blaze Kick and Sky Uppercut, but it lacked range or accuracy to be able to present a powerful front.
  • Third Place: Typhlosion and Infernape - Typhlosion and Infernape each brought options that caused a split in voting. While Typhlosion had some powerful moves that could do consistent damage like Swift and Lava Plume, it wasn't capable of taking out the other entries before they took it out. Infernape had speed on its side, but the lack of raw power kept it from making a meaningful impact against the others in terms of damage.
  • Winner: Charizard - Charizard had multiple advantages, with the versatile Flamethrower on its side and the ability to fly allowing it to pick and choose its fights when it wanted to.
