Punishment.
— Billy when claiming a victim.

William "Billy" Chapman is the main antagonist of the film Silent Night, Deadly Night. He was a toy store employee and serial killer who went on a killing spree on Christmas Night after suffering a mental breakdown. He is also the older brother of Richard "Ricky" Chapman, who likewise comited his own series of murders around Christmastime.

In 1971 on Christmas Night, a five-year-old Billy witnessed the murder of his parents at the hands of a hitchhiker dressed as Santa Claus, which lead to him developing a pathological aversion to Christmas. Billy together with his younger brother Ricky were placed in an orphanage run by Mother Superior, where they experienced abuse, further worsening Billy's mental state. Shunned by his peers, Billy found companionship in one of the orphanage's nuns, Sister Margaret.

In 1984 at age eighteen, Billy left the orphanage and acquired a job at Ira's Toy Store. As the Christmas season arrives, Billy became troubled by hallucinations and post-traumatic stress related to his parents' murders. At the store's Christmas Eve party, while wearing a Santa Claus suit, he witnessed a male employee attempting to harass a female employee in the stockroom, causing him to snap. Enraged, he murdered them both, and his boss Mr. Simms and the manageress Helen Randall. Billy continued his killing spree throughout the night, and eventually decided to visit Ricky at the orphanage and murder Mother Superior as well.

The police, however, with the aid of Sister Margaret, had determined his arrival there and laid in wait. Just as Billy attempted to kill Mother Superior, he was shot dead by an officer. Ricky, who had witnessed his Billy's death, was inspired by his brother's murders and went on to become a serial killer himself.
