OK since we're not getting any good ones (sorry Milen and Kaiser but your ideas are too generic and not formatted well), I'll get mine up and running
Pirates of the Wikia User Tournament: Of course as you can tell by the title, this tournament's theme is pirates and I tend to think of this as a kind of spiritual successor to Leo's Siege tourney (although he doesn't say so). I know I want to hold this off until I finish my current season but since this forum hasn't gotten any decent entries yet and since I'm doing this at Leo's urging I might as well give this a shot.
The basic setting for this is in the Caribbean Sea towards the end of the Golden Age of Piracy in the early 1700s and most of the battles here will be naval battles. The individual battles will take place in random areas around the Sea (e.g. off the coast of Venezuela or in the Yucatan Peninsula) designated by me (weather conditions also randomised). Unlike Leo's Siege tourney however, this tournament will be in the style of a single-elimination knockout meaning not everyone will verse each other and there is no match between losers.
I expect 8 pirates (with their crews) to participate in this quest for gold but only one will be left standing to claim the booty but even that will not be possible without getting past a certain armed militia set by yours truly defending a reasonably well-defended town where the gold is kept (a la the 1st Pirates of the Caribbean movie).
So for participants in this tournaments, they will have to create three things - the pirate captain, the pirate ship and the pirate crew. On the Sign-Up blog, actual guidelines will be set but for now I will post some basic instructions further below. Also, there will be no pirate reinforcements or colonial do-gooders interfering with this battle - it's just a one-to-one mano-a-mano battle to see who is the better pirate.
On another note: I think this, much like Cfp's Pokémon and Leo's Siege Tourney, will be one of those tournaments where users can write their own segments of dialogue (since there will be communication between the Captain and his crew obviously)
Basic Guidelines:
- Each user will be present at the battle as the Captain of the pirate ship.
- Provide yourself with no more than three weapons - a firearm, a sword and a melee weapon other than a sword (e.g. club, bottle, etc; polearms also fit into this category).
- Provide a short bio - no less than 7 sentences but no greater than 15.
- Provide battle plans and tactics - it will be assumed that all pirates in this tournament have heard of each other so that's the gathering of information out of the way but not how the pirate will eventually engage in combat
- You are allowed to use weaponry and ships up to the end of the early modern period (i.e. early 18th century which means no rifles or revolvers or any weapon dating after the time period; same when talking about ships i.e. no steam-powered vessels or such)
- The pirate crew will be carrying a limited supply of cargo on board their ship but after each match, the winning pirate can loot the loser's stockpile of food, ammunition and luxuries (including sugar and spices). The food, luxuries and spices won't be affecting the pirates within the battle itself but numbers are subject to change in-between battles that will affect how pirates behave in the next battle (i.e. too low an amount and your pirates are unhappy, too high an amount however and the ship is heavier).
- Realism applies when creating your pirate ship and crew since one affects the other i.e. smaller ships will carry less weapons, crew and cargo but are smaller and more agile in combat and vice-versa for much larger ships
Time: As I have said before, I'd really like to do after I'm finished with my second season since it may take quite a while. In addition, I may be bogged down personally by university work and other personal projects of mine. Taking this into account, I may be looking at a time range of about 6-8 months including the end-game village looting scenario.
I understand that you might have doubts about my writing skills, timing and organisation and such despite my time here on this wiki so if you don't choose me, that's fine. Any room for improvement would also be appreciated.
